York City's first ever Fansmatch has been confirmed to take place at Bootham Crescent on Sunday May 9th 2004 kick off 3pm.
The game gives all City fans the chance to experience the thrill of playing for York City on our home ground.
The day has now developed far beyond the initial idea for a fundraising kick-about and has captured the imagination of supporters and local buisnesses.
The home team was auctioned at the Open Day last summer and bids raised £2815. Shirt 12 in the away team was auctioned at the Club's Christmas Dinner Disco and raised a further £1,000.
The away team is to be auctioned in the Social Club on Friday 13th Feb with an 8pm start. To take part in the game come to the auction and bid for shirts 1 to 11 in the away team and any unpaid home shirts. If you cannot make the auction but wish to bid please write to Steve Ovenden care of the Club with your bid and a contact number on the night or e mail - all contacts will receive a confirmation.
The home team are to be managed by Chris Brass and the away team by Alan Little. In addition, City stars of past and present are lending their support to the event.
Players will be treated to a pre match meal at the Beechwood Close Hotel before boarding the team coach (supplied by Dodsworths) for a tour of the city before arriving at Bootham Crescent for the match. Kits will be on the dressing room pegs with names printed on kit which players can keep. The managers will give final team talks before the teams emerge from the tunnel and on top the hallowed turf.
With two squads of 13, organisers Steve Ovenden and Kirsten Gillies were concerned about player fitness and having failed to attract sponsorship from St John's Ambulance or Bupa, went in search of some new signings and are delighted to announce that Ginner, Andy Mac, Jon McCarthy, Steve Tutill, Ian Blackstone and Tony Canham are all set to make comebacks for City. They will all play part of the match in aid of YCST.
The match is to be filmed by York TV and we hope to produce a match video with some added behind the scenes extras. The ground will be open for spectators and admission prices will be released later.
Shirt 13 in both sides are to be raffled and tickets are on sale now in the Club Shop at £1 per ticket.
Please help support this Trust fundraiser for the benefit of York City. |
