Cardiff City boss Lennie Lawrence today confirmed his interest in much coveted City midfielder Lee Bullock. Bullock has won a host of admirers with a number of eye catching displays in the number eight shirt and 5 league goals to date. Cardiff, Sheffield United and a host of other Division One sides are believed to be tracking the attacking midfielder but Lawrence is the first to express this interest in the media. Lawrence said: "We are still interested in Lee Bullock and I will be going up to watch him play for York." Lawrence will take to the stands to watch Lee in the derby battle at Bootham Crescent next Sunday against Huddersfield Town. The Welsh side are believed to have a £150,000 deal in mind for the player, who cannot leave on a Bosman free as he is still under the age of 24. Half of this would be paid up front with the reminder re-paid in increments depending on appearances and future international honours.
When pressed as to the situation Chris Brass, the city manager confirmed no official bid had been received but if necessary he would discuss the situation with the Cardiff Supremo after the Huddersfield match. Brass said: "The comments from Cardiff don't surprise me because there's been a lot of interest and it's over to Lee now as much as anything. If they are to make an official bid then it's an opportunity for him to move up two divisions and better himself.” Brass also underlined that City would only sell if the circumstances were right for all parties: "The time might be coming where we have to sit down and take it that next stage but, at this moment, Lee's playing for York and will carry on doing well for the club until anything happens, if it does." The Player-Manager refused to speculate with regards to the fee any possible move might involve, only saying: "We will have to sit down because that's just paper talk at the moment. Lennie has stated that he's an admirer of Lee's before and, if he's coming up here, then it could be over to Lee and hopefully he will impress."
Bullock’s departure would be a loss to the club who, after consecutive wins are on the verge of the play-offs. Bullock has proven to be a versatile squad member this term playing both in midfield and as a forward. City’s midfield has been bolstered with the loan signing of Justin Walker, which fuelled speculation as to Lee’s imminent departure. His arrival certainly leaves the club with a ready-made replacement but Walker is short of match practice and may take a while to bed into the side. City’s midfield is arguably their strongest area with Darren Dunning, Mitch Ward, Bullock, Stephen Brackstone, Leigh Wood, Richard Cooper, Christian Fox and now Walker to call on. Given this any six figure offer may be too much for the club to refuse.
Should any move take place, Bullock will join an illustrious list of former City players to enjoy big money moves. In the last ten years: Paul Barnes, Jon McCarthy, Richard Cresswell, Darren Williams, Alan Pouton, Dean Kiely, Nigel Pepper, Alan Pouton and Graeme Murty have all found varying degrees of fame and fortune following big money moves from the club.
