Who from here posts comments on the news pages on This is York?
Some people have FAR, FAR too much time.
There's a great story on today about some bloke complaining about the service in a pub (it's better than Viz) - there's over 130 comments!

Some people on that site should keep their mouths shut in regards to recent events. |

I most certainly do not post on there, because the only thing from the Press which I read at all is the sports pages (me gran reads the paper cover to cover twice and fills me in on owt else which is important) and I refuse to post on there because the people who already do post are always so bloody negative about EVERYTHING - even more so than on here - and it kills me inside. Seriously, its soul destroying.

Bit of a generalisation, especially considering you've just said you don't read it surely?
People need to let off a bit of steam sometimes, and it often ends up there- better than out on the street isn't it?
I'm guessing Helen's talking about the story of young chap who was found in The Ouse and I'm also guessing that Helen's called herself HMB. Are there any posts which were removed from there, as I can't see anyone saying anything disparaging about him?
To be honest I'm just very surprised that they allowed comments on that story, as they know the sorts of comments they get. I'm presuming it was a way of alowing people to express their condolences, but it really wasn't an appropriate forum in which to do it. Unfortunately, as has been said on here often enough, it's far too easy to sit at your PC and spout offensive bile.

What people need to realise is that although they may be in the majority to whom Rob Davies was a total stranger and just another statistic, to a minority he was a son, a brother or a friend. Smartarse comments about how difficult it is to fall in the river, insinuating that he was an idiotic drunkard who brought his death at the age of twenty entirely on himself are inappropriate and uncalled for. Those who have a compulsion to post on every fricking story all day should have the decency to keep their fingers still on such a matter and if they can't then they need to take a long, hard look at themselves. |

He delights in being the 'alternative' view, from what I can remember living in York (many, many years ago now) - there's about five or six people who keep the YEP letters section going, most of them prone to spouting complete nonsense. I reckon they write a letter a day just to give them something to do.

Typical student.
Haven't lived for 2 minutes & due to tossing it off in "further education" they think they have some sort of authority.
I think it raises a good point you could aim at many on here.
The tolerance of discrimination towards others, by skin colour ,area of habitation , by place of birth or accent and the broad brush of 'banter' as the reasoning / defence for their actions or deeds.
Yes there are more important happening in the world than 'a mans pint' but like other 'public interest stories' - "everyone's talking about it".
Really ? nope.

Higher education actually and you can piss off.
If a 'typical student' is one who at least makes an effort to defend the memory of a young lad now unable to do it for himself, then hooray for 4 hours a week. |

If that's what further education does for you.
Keep the loans & raise them, I say.
Try "telling them" on that site.
Life goes on.

I have often wondered if the signatures on those letters are pen-names for Press journalists doing their best to fill up space that would otherwise have to have a (non-)story in it.

Authority? I'd call it stating the obvious and I'm sure i'd make a comment similar if someone i knew was found washed up in the Ouse. You on the other hand, I'm quite sure, would have delivered a fantastically worded shower of abuse of f-ing and blinding.
As for Students, what does it matter?! Where's the relevance? I do detect perhaps a little envy from some quarters when people pull out that old chestnut. 4 hours a week, you pay for our beer and we get up and go to bed when we want. Good, thanks, it's mint.
Sadly that's not how it works though, however much you try and convince yourself and others

Indeed.
I remember another case a few years ago when a body was dragged out of the Ouse. It was thought to be just another accident, possibly due to drink.
A year later, a bloke walked into the police station and confessed to pushing the guy into the river.
I'm not alleging that this is what's happened to Rob Davies, just pointing out that things are not always what they seem.

This bloke is an absoute c**t of the highest order and sadly an excrable rag like The Press gives him far too much exposure. He's one of those typical smarmy gloating Leeds fans that delights in sneering at York, despite living here for God knows how long. Mind, he's remarkably quiet about their current predicament though at the moment.....

Let the guy have his freedom to protest City Till I Die - let him have the opportunity to throw eggs at any "celebration" parade - but equally allow the parading troops to carry live ammunition to shoot any protesters

Getting back to the point of D/Ls post, the YEP comments pages can often be relied for a good chucke, mainly because a large number of them slag the YEP off for going down market.
Perhaps the YEP are aiming for the same readership as these chaps...
