People hanging around in Manchester for a bit (there's a Wetherspoon a few minutes' walk from Piccadilly station) or going straight to Southport?

There is a nice Irish Bar (turn right out of Picc 2 min walk) or there was when I worked in Manchester (altho that was in 1998!)
And for those who want something different boys - Canal Street

Top place for a drink, I'd recommend Via Fosse which is pretty gothic in apprearance but has lots of places to sit out of the way with the lady of your choosing
