The idea that your dangly bits make any difference to your ability to referee a game of football is pure bollocks.

However, if you really think a penis is the only piece of equipment a referee needs, apply to be one (referee, not penis) yourself.

You can help drive out the female plague and restore refereeing standards to the total perfection of the golden age before women got the vote.

Unless and until more people come forward to give of their time and effort, the FA will have no choice but to rapidly promote officials who may have insufficient experience.

Shockingly, there are actually men Shocked who are being fast-tracked in this way, including some we’ve seen at Bootham Crescent over the last couple of seasons.

There is a shortage of good quality officials, but hurling Neanderthal sexist abuse at one particular official because you don’t like her decisions or her gender isn’t much of a recipe for improving things.

Some good points Frank. Much of this was born of the FIFA desire to have a World Cup staffed entirely by under 28 year old officials by 2010.
Many experienced (& better) officials have been discarded simply because they had the misfortune to be born in the wrong year - "you can't buy experience".
However, no matter which way you look at it certain 'minority' (within the game of football) groups have definitely succeeded due to 'positive discrimination'! (Uriah Rennie, Amy Rayner, Gurnham Singh etc. etc.). These were no better than the average ref chasing their ambition, but it was seen as PC to promote them - there rant over & yes I am bitter at having suffered at the expense of one or two of these minorities! Evil or Very Mad

and you weren't even there, well done... Rolling Eyes

I notice all the misogynists here failed to pick up on the point I made earlier about Newell's embarrassing tirade. He claimed SHE failed to award a penalty...

Therefore Newell doesn't even know the laws of the game, what an utter goose. Frank hit the nail on the head.

Frank may have hit the nail on the head but as many on here have seen her officiate and will probably agree (sorry to exclude you Dee) she is still s***e as are many of the fast tracked dopes who appear at BC week in week out.

Bring back Maurice Fussey Very Happy

Daft story altogether this really - surely there will be good and bad refs and gender makes not a jot of difference. Cannot believe Newell was so daft and that its caused such a fuss.

After hearing a few radio reports on Radio 1 about it, it seems as if Newell's job could be on the line. Not just because of the Amy Rayner comments, but he insulted the Luton Town chairman aswell! Laughing

If you're gonna have an abusive rant, why not do it properly? Laughing
