Before we rewrite history can I point out that Newcastle's average attendance in ALL league games since 1888 is over 30,000. That covers good times and bad. Sunderland's average is under 25,000 in the same time. |
What else would you expect from the self proclaimed "Loyalist" football supporters?

Although as has been mentioned before, the months before Keegan took over when Newcastle were sliding towards Division 3 (or league 1 as it is now) the gates were massively down - just like Manchester City's gates were massively down when they were in League 1 (or division 2 as it was then). |
Man City's attendances massively down? They were regularly getting 30,000 or so at Maine Road, with the highest for a certain match at the end of the season.
|
Yes they got 30,000 around the end of the season - but in the middle of the season (November/December time) they were struggling and the crowds dipped further down. They picked up at the end of the season when they went on a good run to get themselves into the play-offs.
When we beat them 2-1 at BC I think that result took us above them in the league - which shows how far down they had fallen before the revived later on in the season.

At least they bothered to turn up unlike Newcastle! |
But we still tried to book them 2 seasons on the trot.
Learning lessons the first time ?
