York Minstermen have had a number of enquiries as to whether we're going to run a coach to Aldershot on September 24th
If we do decide to run a coach, how likely are you to travel on it?
The cost is likely to be in the region of £20+ and we'd be setting off early (7ish) to allow a supporters' match to be played.
I'm told that all cheap rail tickets have been sold for that date - if that's right, this may be a cheapish alternative.
A - no
B - possibly
C - probably
D - definitely

I missed on out the cheap train tickets to London and would like to go, especially now that City are playing some quality football for the first time in what feels like years.

For me it is an A because I booked my train tickets in July so I got the cheap ones. I would have done if is wasn't for that.

Yeah they sold out real fast for that day apparently, I got mine 4 maybe 5 weeks ago now, and then someone else went to get some and they'd gone a couple of days later.

I can't really afford the train and I might be playing in the match that morning anyway.

Wasn't planning to go but we've been that good this season i wouldn't mind now. I can't find anyway of getting there via train for under £37, the price you're giving sounds pretty good too! |

Buy the cheap tickets to Kings X (£9.50 each way I believe), then get a cheap day return between London Terminals and Aldershot with your YP for around £5/6(maybe even less), and then your tube tickets will be £4. Should be no more than £30... It's not as far as Gravesend and I'm going there for £27

All of which means that unfortunately it's not going to be possible for us to run a coach to Aldershot.

Ah well, i'm gonna sound like acombred again but if you still wanna go like me and didn't get the cheapo train tickets (they're sold out according to thetrainline.com) on the day you buy York-Grantham and Grantham-London cheap day returns. All you have to do is make sure the train you're on calls at Grantham (or you can change at Donny or Leeds or summat to get one that calls at Grantham). Then you buy your London etc. tickets as well as that. Shouldn't be too much considering (well not if ytou've just got your student loan!) - £37 odd with a railcard. |

We are thinking about hiring a mini-bus, we'll see.

What is your case dave?
That people shouldn't bother to organise travel to away matches?
Agreed, let's try and have the smallest away following possible, it's not polite to roll up to a non-league ground with too many fans.

daveccc, are you referring to the post you made earlier in this thread, which was removed by the moderators?
If so, there is no "case" for you to rest - that posting was a continuation of a personal disagreement with members of the York Minstermen committee. It was also full of personal abuse against two individuals, one of whom no longer uses this forum. A response from the other individual was also removed by the moderators.
If you're referring to the pm you sent me, then yes it's a fair point that lack of support means we can't always run coaches.
However it's unfair of you to say we're "always cancelling at short notice" We set a deadline to make a decision and keep people who have booked or expressed an interest informed of what's happening. It's a shame everyone who's booked doesn't keep us informed when they change their mind and don't turn up for the game, thus losing us (and YCFC) money.
In this case, we didn't intend running a coach, but when approached by Kingmouse saying he could bring a group of 12 people, we agreed to test the water, hence this thread. The postings, pms, and personal conversations made it clear we couldn't run it.
What this says to me is that York Minstermen is a group that takes notice of what its members and other City fans want. I'm sorry that's not good enough for you, but the thousands of pounds we've raised and the successful trips we have run would tend to suggest that you're in a minority.
York Minstermen began running coaches as a service to supporters who want more from a trip than the Travel Club is able to offer and who couldn't afford to travel by train. If there aren't sufficient people to make that service viable, then so be it - it's not a matter of principle that we have to run coaches.
I'd guess a fair proportion of the potential "market" for YMM coaches travels instead on trips organised by York Mystermen. It's great that someone else is organising that facility for York City fans, but as the Mysterymen don't advertise their trips, the majority of City fans without their own transport can only choose between the train, the Travel Club, and York Minstermen.
The point is to get as many City fans to away games, not for the various groups to compete against one another or against YCFC's own provision. For example, I'll be using the Travel Club to go to Tamworth, I used the train to go to Halifax, and the YMM coach to go to Southport.
The conclusion of all this is that if there's enough demand, York Minstermen will continue to offer transport to City away games, but if there isn't enough demand, we'll recommend people travel by whatever other means are open to them.
What we WON'T be doing is sniping at other groups and individuals or attempting to undermine their attempts to support York City. |

Bloody good post Frank.
Though I would add that I'd very much like to see York Minstermen and the Mysterymen co-operating on travel. Pooling our resources and punters would mean a decent number of foks travelling, and would also reduce the organization needed.
Anyone from the Mysterymen care to comment? |

daveccc, there was no abuse against you in this thread, and the person you fell out with no longer uses this forum. I'd therefore be grateful if you'd stop hijacking travel threads in pursuit of your disagreement with that person.
I've sent you a pm regarding the deletion of similar messages on another thread.
