Di Franchesci signs for City.

York City today announced the signing of Italian forward Cristian Di Franchesci on a free transfer.

Di Franchesci, who has also played for Como and San Marino, has been signed for no fee, as he was out of contract, after being released by Serie C club San Marino.

Di Franchesci gave a passionate interview today whilst speaking to The Evnging Press.

When asked what made him choose york City over a host of other clubs, he replied, in broken English:

'I'm sure you can imagine, it's an unimaginable honour to live in this city. I loved this city as soon as I walked inside the walls, which I must say are very good in their own way.'

'Everyone I have met so far associated with club, have been fantastic. One David Helsdon gave me a good welcome, as he seems to be on the same level with me.'

On moving away from Italy, he replied:

I don't wish to discuss it. That's a chapter, the last chapter of the twentieth, twentieth, twenty-first century that most of me would rather forget. The last chapter of the twentieth century. This is the twenty-first century.'

'Obviously, I'd rather play in front of a full house rather than an empty crowd. York is a great club, and it's been my home for years, even though I have been living in San Marino'

Di Franchesci will hopefully make his debut against Frickley in just over a weeks time.
