With York City's squad-rebuilding plans gaining increased momentum, recent signing Steve Davis has stated that he firmly expects his new club to be pushing hard for a Conference play-off place at the very least.
The former Southampton, Burnley, Notts County, Luton Town and Blackpool stalwart outlined his hopes when speaking as the special guest of official supporters' club the Harrogate Minstermen on Monday evening.
Davis signed a two-year contract with the Bootham Crescent club last month, ending a twelve-month chase for his signature by his former Burnley colleague Chris Brass.
The experienced centre-back admitted that he has always secretly harboured ambitions of reuniting his playing association with Brass, whom he cited as the chief reason that he decided to spurn offers from several Football League clubs in favour of a move to North Yorkshire.
The Hexham-born stopper has already been rewarded with the club captaincy role vacated by the departed Darren Edmondson, a position that is expected to involve a number of off-the-field personal responsibilities.
Davis stated that he was already very impressed with the quality of players being brought into the club by the City management team, while also confirming that he believes that 'Clubman of the Year' Darren Dunning - who may be in line to retain the role of team captain - will be a particularly strong influence.
