York City player-manager Chris Brass has once again turned to a former Burnley teammate as he looks to complement his squad ahead of the new season. Experienced goalkeeper Paul Crichton (35) has joined the Minstermen on trial with a view to a permanent move.

Pontefract-born Crichton appears set to make York his twelfth professional club following his release by First Division champions Norwich City, for whom he filled the role of understudy to England international Robert Green.

Brass is considering handing a dual role of player and goalkeeping coach to the shot-stopper, who began life at Nottingham Forest, before further spells at Notts County, Darlington, Peterborough United, Swindon Town, Rotherham United, Torquay United, Doncaster Rovers, Grimsby Town, West Bromwich Albion, Burnley and Norwich City.

In total Crichton has made more than 450 senior appearances during an eighteen-year career and commanded combined transfer fees of £500,000.

The busy York chief is also hoping to secure the services of Walsall's six-foot striker Andy Bishop, who has also been training with the Minstermen.

The twenty-one-year-old front-runner has previously featured in loan spells at Yeovil Town, Rochdale and Kidderminster Harriers, claiming ten goals in forty-two starts.

Meanwhile ex-England semi-professional international keeper Craig Mawson, lately of Morecambe, and one-time Scarborough forward Tommy Raw are still chasing contracts at Bootham Crescent.

However testing the water elsewhere for the moment is long-serving Burnley schemer Paul Weller, who has linked up with League One outfit Luton Town on a two-day trial.
