York City player manager Chris Brass backed his young players to lead the club back into the Football League following their relegation into the Conference.
A tearful Brass told BBC Radio York: "There's emotion and I'm disappointed.
"But they're good lads and I think you've seen what I'm going to have at my disposal next season.
"I've got some hard work over the summer and some difficult decisions to make, but it's going to be worth it in the end. I will get this right."
There were emotional scenes at Bootham Crescent after York's fate was confirmed by a 2-1 defeat against Leyton Orient.
Fans invaded the pitch and Brass was clearly moved by the support shown to him after the final whistle.
"I can't hide my emotions. I'm a man that wears his heart on his sleeve," he admitted.
"It feels like we've just won promotion from the Third Division and not relegation, but that's a testimony to the fans, who certainly don't deserve this.
"I want to make sure each and every one of those people has something to cheer about.
"The fans know where the problems lie. Yes, I've got to accept responsibility for the mistakes I've made along the way. I'll learn from that.
"A great deal of my budget for next season is going will come from the fans and they're going to back us through thick and thin.
"It's bizarre because I'm proud and quietly optimistic."
