Sunday, sunday

City's derby match against Huddersfield Town has now been put back 24 hours to Sunday 25th January (KO 3pm) following Scarborough’s FA Cup replay victory over Southend last night. The win ensured the Seadogs will now entertain Premiership millionaires Chelsea in a money spinning FA Cup Fourth Round tie at the McCain stadium.

Policing implications are behind the switch with North Yorkshire police unable to police both matches had city kicked off as usual at 3 o'clock. City Director Terry Doyle had been approached by Police with a view to shifting the game to a 5:30pm kick off but this was rebuffed by the club. Doyle added: "We took the view that this was an unacceptable kick-off time, not only for our own supporters but also for the large travelling support we expect from Huddersfield. Moving the game to the Friday night would also have inconvenienced the large travelling support and therefore we considered Sunday the most appropriate alternative."

Another factor in the equation was York Knights' friendly against Super League outfit Leeds Rhinos, which was scheduled for the Friday night. As such it seems the clubs hands were pretty much tied on the issue and the Sunday is the best possible compromise. Doyle, City's Finance Director echoed this and empathised with the problems the late switch may bring, adding: "I can only apologise to our supporters for the short notice regarding this change but under the circumstances I am sure they will understand."

This is the second time this season that a game has been switched to a Sunday on police advice following on from City's FA Cup clash against Barnsley in November, which clashed with the Scarborough - Doncaster tie.

Irrespective of this switch a bumper Bootham Crescent crowd is predicted for the clash which sees two form teams battling it out for a play-off place.
