Full of Eastern Promise
City prospect Lev Yalcin hopes his return to the first team fray will aid his chances of a new contract in the summer. Yalcin, only 18 and still eligible for City's Youth Team marked his first appearance in the first team for almost a year against Carlisle with a cameo 13 minute performance in which he nearly won a penalty and laid on a chance for fellow substitute Jon Parkin. Lev was obviously delighted to be back on track after a nightmare spell with injuries saying: "I was happy with how I played even though it's hard to get into the rhythm of the game when you come on at first. Maybe if I had got another ten or 15 minutes I could have got a goal."
When pressed about his future he added: "I've been pleased with my performances in the reserves and just hope I can keep scoring and get a first-team place. I just want to get back playing football again, score some goals for the first team and get a contract. I've not felt any reaction to the injury and have been training this week and will be playing for the reserves again so hopefully I can do well."
Yalcin is also hoping that his return to favour may boost his International chances with the Turkish Youth side: "I think there's a match at the end of February and if I am doing well for York then, hopefully, I will get a call-up." City Manager Chris Brass has great faith in the player as indicated by the release of Northern Ireland International striker Gary Browne earlier this week and expects Yalcin to play a pivotal role in the coming months, hopefully providing the solution to the club's goal shy attack.
City's great hope also added sway to the support for Brass among supporters and his team mates, saying: "I've enjoyed working with the manager and you can really talk to him as a mate and, as a manager, it's good to have him around and the same applies to Lee Nogan. They have brought my game on and, hopefully, that will be shown in the future."
Meanwhile, competition for places among the forwards has intensified with the return to the club of Aron Wilford from his loan spell at Worksop. He was expected to feature in the Reserve's game against Notts County today.
City reserves: Porter, Downes, Wise, Parkin, Davies, Stewart, Brackstone, Walker, Fox, Yalcin, Wilford
