City player-manager, Chris Brass, moved quickly today to dismiss reports that Lee Bullock was about to be sold.
Speaking to the Evening Press, Brass said that the loan signing of Cambridge Utd midfielder Justin Walker was not an indication that Bullock was on his way out of the club.
Bullock has attracted the attention of several first-division clubs this season, including Nottingham Forrest and Cardiff City, with his commanding performances in midfield and, of late, as a striker. But Brass insisted that the club would only sell the player at the right price:
"There's been a number of inquiries about the lad and what's happening but I do not want to lose him unless it's right for Lee Bullock and right for York City. He's not got a price on his head and he's a valuable member of our squad but people are inquiring."
Brass insisted he would be reluctant to let Bullock leave, maintaining that until someone makes a high enough bid, he is still a York City player.
Bullock has played for City all of his career appearing in over 160 games while scoring 25 goals from midfield, and has played in all but three games this season.
On Walker, Brass added:
“"He's a quality player and we are lucky enough to have him. He's here on loan for two months initially and I am sure if we can keep him until the end of the season he will have a major input.”
The addition of Walker, coupled with the return of long-term injury victims Christian Fox and promising forward Lev Yalcin adds more competition for places in an already fiercely contested squad – boding well for an encouraging second half of the season.
"When we have everybody fit we have got a small but decent squad that we can change things about with.
"It was good to have three players come off the bench of real quality. That gives you a lift and you know they are going to see you through to the end of the game.”
York lie 10th in the Third Division, three points off the playoffs. |
