Former Minstermen hero Paul Barnes may be returning to Bootham Crescent following his release from Doncaster on a free transfer. City boss Chris Brass has revealed that, although there are currently six strikers vying for places in the team already, an out-and-out goalscorer in the form of Barnes might be an option. Speaking to a local newspaper, Brass stated that "Paul Barnes is somebody we would look at and consider," adding that, "I know him well but it might come down to financial implications again."

Barnes himself, who amassed a total of 85 goals for City in just four seasons, has revealed that he "Would love to come back to York." He is already familiar with Brass having linked up with him at Burnley, but there are also three or four Conference clubs, two of which are rumoured to be Tamworth and Dagenham, who are also trying to bring in the veteran striker. It is not yet known whether Barnes would be signed as a player only or whether he would take on a coaching role as he did at Doncaster.
