York City 1 Lincoln City 0
Report by Carrie Stockdale
A great weekend for York City this weekend with the first team beating Doncaster 1-0 and the Youth Team bagging their first league win of the season against league leaders Lincoln.
The game was going to be difficult and after suffering quite a defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, the lads were determined not to suffer a similar scoreline again.
Team: Stockdale, Law, Anderson, Staley, Davies, Baynes, Coad (c), McKenzie, Stewart, Arthur, Lyons. Subs: Reid, Kamara, Haw, Green, Ashcroft.
York started off well and played some good passing football, they looked very relaxed on the ball and showed some real skill.
Some early pressure by York gave the first of many chances starting from a cross by Baynes across front of goal, just missed contact by both Arthur and Law
Further pressure from York saw the visitors giving away free kicks, a left footed cross from a free kick by Stewart into the box headed just over by Anderson.
York however took advantage of the pressure they had been building with a goal after 29 minutes, Coad won a tackle in the midfield, cut inside to the edge of the box to Arthur who turned well and slotted the ball right footed under the keeper’s body.
Half Time 1-0
The second half was to prove difficult, a bad tackle on McKenzie saw Kane Ashcroft coming on just 6 minutes in.
Lincoln threw everything they had at York, however the lads worked hard and battled throughout the game, the defence looked strong and Stockdale had very little to do.
York continued to push forward to try for another goal, with definite chances created, a break down the left by Lyons laid back to Baynes, cross into the box, cleared by the Lincoln defence which fell to Ashcroft on the edge of the box who’s volley went just wide.
York substitution saw Robbie Haw replacing Steven Lyons on 70 minutes
Further chances from Ashcroft and Davies were just over the crossbar.
Full Time 1-0
The lads played well and deserved this win, their first and hopefully not their last league win of the season.
The man of the match again was a difficult decision and it was hard to give it to just one person, however Adam Arthur has been excellent over the past few games, his work rate has been high and has showed great strength. |
