York captain Darren Edmondson hailed Richard Cooper as a "brilliant" replacement at right wing back while the City skipper has spent 2 months on the sidelines recovering from a torn calf muscle.
Brass had initially used Steve Downes but when he picked up a knee injury just 3 games later former Nottingham Forest trainee Cooper was asked to fill the position.
City had not lost in the league lost this season when Edmondson was playing went down to their first defeat of the season against Lincoln on August 30 the game where he picked up his injury.
Edmondson returned to the starting line up against Scunthorpe with Cooper returning to the bench after 8 succesive games. "I think Coops has done a brilliant job over the last month." commented Skipper Edmondson.
His comeback game meant he had to face former Premiership player Peter Beagrie. To be honest not the best person to be playing against for your first game in 2 months but Darren did his job solidly and kept him out. Darren commented, "I knew it would be a good battle and test and I was just happy they did not create anything for him and I got 90 minutes under my belt."
York were top in Edmondsons last full game but dropped points against Lincoln and moved down to second. As have results, York's positions has dipped since then and they are now in 10th but things are looking up for the Minstermen as they have stayed in 10th for the last 4 matches. |
