Report by Carrie Stockdale
Darlington 1 York 1
Here is the premiere of the reports for the youth team games on red and blue net. I’m Cazza your friendly yet totally biased, sorry, I mean unbiased reporter for the York City Youth Team games.
The players are the future of York City, the lads, aged between 16 and 19 (in shorts) it’s a tough job but someone has got to do it!
Today’s game away at Darlo was our chance to bounce back after quite a defeat away at Lincoln last week and bounce back we did with a good performance from all concerned.
Team: Stockdale, Law, Davies, Coad (c), Anderson, Staley, Arthur, Ashcroft, Haw, Lyons, Stewart. Subs: Reid, Kamara, Webster
York started the game lively with Steven Lyons hitting the crossbar after a through ball from Graeme Law after just 4 minutes, this continued with the good runs through the Darlo defense by Bryan Stewart, one a shot wide of the target and the other laid out wide to Robbie Haw who’s shot went just wide of the post.
York then found themselves 1-0 down after 17 minutes with a goal direct from a corner, against the run of play.
York continued with some great pressure which very nearly paid off with a good move beginning from a goal kick by Stockdale, picked up by Davies who sent a great ball down the line into Stewart’s feet. The ball was then fired into the box where it was cleared on the post by the Darlington defense.
Half Time 1 - 0
After half time York came out, again looking like they were going to score, putting loads of pressure on the home side.
Again with some good build up play right across the park a cross from Stewart onto the waiting head of Haw forcing an amazing double save from the Darlo keeper, and giving York a corner.
Adam Arthur then evens the score with a well taken corner that sails straight into the back of the net in the 50th minute.
Further good work on the left wing involving Law, Arthur & Lyons leading to a shot by Coad to just go over the bar, then a shot from Stewart going just wide and a half volley from Arthur saved by the Darlo keeper.
York substitution in 70th minute with Nathan Kamara replacing Robbie Haw.
Spell of Darlo pressure sees a free kick given the home side’s way that is taken quite quickly into the box and a shot on target being tipped onto the post by Stockdale, with the second shot being fired well over the bar.
Double substitution for York in the 85th minute with Byron Webster replacing Kane Ashcroft and an under 16 who goes by the name of Buncey (? Even the other Youth team players don’t know his full name!) replacing Stephen Lyons with Darlington also making a substitution.
The final 5 mins sees York pushing right to the final whistle for that winning goal, with various shots on target taken well by the keeper and a corner very nearly going in the back of the net.
All in all a good overall performance from the boys in red, with Gary Anderson being my man of the match, nothing was getting past him at the back!
Full time 1 - 1
The next game for the YT’s is next Saturday away at Preston in the Youth Alliance Cup 1st round. |
