OUT WITH THE OLD
York City Football Club is currently developing a new official web site. The site is to be produced independently of the PTV network following a break down in talks with the company.
The board has shared the frustrations of many supporters about the lack of an up-to-date official web site, and has decided to take firm action.
The PTV site is currently being replaced with a temporary holding page that provides a direct link to Red & Blue. We will shortly consider ways of integrating Red & Blue with the official site.
We hope to complete the new official site by mid-October and would like to ask fans to be patient during this time.
APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE
If there are any professional web developers who can volunteer to work in my City Centre studios over the next month or so, please email me at .

Cool - good news
Can I make a request about the accessibility of the site? I'm sure a lot of folks would appreciate a site that's more accessible than most of the others in the footballing world, ie. no need for registration, non-Flash, and with more emphasis on content rather than style?
I've been looking at other clubs' sites (for details about away travel, etc. and just for general noseyness) and a lot of them could do a much better...

And I plead for a different kind of accessibilty: for people with disabilities of one kind or another.
See http://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp for advice on making web sites accessible, and a validator to check some of the issues.
Let's be the first club to have the logo on the front page. (And while we are at it, why not the W3C approved logos, too?)

I take these comments on board.
Rule 1 of Internet Marketing : "Don't put up brick walls!"
However, disabled accessibility can increase development time considerably. Thus, I propose to introduce it over a period of time, rather than on first launch.

Boom-tish.
In fact, Braille readers CAN access websites, by using software which reads the text and displays it on a Braille output. Actually.
Mike - I'm not a techie, but I am told very reliably by RNIB's web accessibility consultants that making a site accessible is FAR easier done from scratch rather than as an afterthought. Most of it is simple common-sense stuff.

I see that Reg beat me to it, and on the difficulty of retro-fitting.
Also, an accessible site is usually an uncomplicated site, and so better for its readers on both cognitive and amount-of-crud-that-needs-to-be-downloaded measures. It should also be easier to develop.

There is also a danger that once the site has been created there may be a temptation not to re-do it to make it more accessible.
I don't think there is a rush for the official site to be launched, now that the situation is made clear on ycfc.net. Far better to take your time and get it right.
However in the mean time it would be great if latest news from the club could be posted here promptly and regularly ensuring all readers are kept well informed. |

I know I've asked about this one before - but what will the position be on accessing commentary to games over the web? Will Premium TV still have the "licence" to carry BBC local radio commentaries, or might that be accessible through the new site? Has any consideration been given to carrying hospital radio broadcasting? Will the present access to York City World still exist?
Sorry - several questions, but I'm still confused (and would be interested to know what's going to happen before my subscription to YCW comes up for renewal at the end of October)
Cheers |

Interesting... we might be able to approach BBC Radio York about licensing an audio stream, but Premium TV - if they had any sense - would have negotiated an exclusive deal..

Mozzy scores an own goal again.
In fact 90% of people officially registered as blind do have a degree of sight, therefore it is perectly feasible that the most Braille users will be able to see the site too. (Not very well, like, obviously )
