Did anyone think it was slightly odd that an Estonian woman was singing our national anthem at Wembley this afternoon? I quite like national anthems, well the good ones at least but surely the person singing it should be from that country or what is the point of them? |

But you had to give the Estonians something to sing about Tim - after all they didnt have much shance after about 3 o clock now did they.
Good PR I reckon by the FA perhaps the Gallagher lad could be pursuaded to sing the Ruskie anthem on Wednesday - now that would be fun - not sure what it would do for anglo russian relationships though

The anthems in the rugby were sung with much more gusto as well from players, fans and management. Take notes for Wednesday boys.
Oh also where is the best place in York to watch the England game- Stupid kick off time.

Aye, the difference between the football and rugby teams when singing the national anthem is amazing. They might be posh public school types blah blah blah, but the rugby lads look proud as hell to be wearing that shirt, whereas half the football team are pleased to be wearing it because it's another pay cheque.

England's national anthem should be William Blake's Jerusalem. It's proper class.

Both Scotland and Wales have their own individual anthems at sporting events, so England should have one too, since GSTQ is actually the U.K one.

Well we use Flower Of Scotland, for Football & Rugby, which isn't actually our anthem but has been adopted as such - I can still remember going to Hampden for Scotland games when I was young and GSTQ being played before kickoff.

Especially the bit where Sgt Major Williams shouts "Shut Up !" across the parade ground at the top of his voice ....

arsehole!
quite ironic for a country that is the least religious in most of the world to have an anthem that the mass proletariate quite happily sing along to god saving the queen; a lady who holds no relevenace to the lives of most chanteurs. if only people could think properly.....
'Murdoch save our Daily Mail' would be more appropriate to the masses.
debate that.
