Football is at an intolerable level.
The people in control of it are so out of touch with hardcore fans that it's untrue.

It think it's a great idea. I'd love to go over to the US again and watch a game of soccer.
Man Utd v Chelsea in Giant's Stadium would be awesome.

The NFL, aware that its commercial potential is restricted by the fact that it is limited to the US market, is actively trying to develop new markets overseas. It has already held a game in Mexico City and is planning to play a game in China as well as in London. NFL Europe didn't really cut it, but I think it's not impossible that there may be a London "expansion franchise" in the NFL in 10-20 years time.
I think it's more likely that Premiership teams might play each other in a pre-season friendly in the US than a regular game (as was the case with the NFL in the 80s) - it's not quite the same in that they wouldn't be trying to "grow" the sport as the NFL are doing, but rather they would be trying to capture a new international support base for individual teams, as they are already doing in Asia.

But Tommi the premiership is and has been nothing like real football for many years - so why not let this happen - after all it is all about TV now (as we are all too aware with the farcical suituation of YC matches being played on Thursday nights and Sunday evenings).
Serious question - if some Serie A matches were played in England would you CONSIDER going to them? I know that I would.
Perhaps it might be a good idea to play a few foreign games on English grounds (Wembley /Old Trafford etc) and a few Enlish games in Europe? After all fans don't matter now a days!

I can't believe they are even thinking of doing this. Which premiership side would sacrifice their fans, the '12th man', for the sake of getting some obese, hot dog loving yanks on board. It is disgraceful, the ultimate act of selling out. Why not just pack it up and travel from country to country, why stop at yankland? Let's take it to Africa, then to Asia, mind you we'd have to change the name, something along the lines of Zippo's Premier Circus and throw in a few elephants and trapeze artists at half time that'd be great.
Can you hear that noise.........it's the death knell for football. Sacrificing your own loyal fans for the sake of extra sales is ludicrous......ahh it's really infuriating me

Too true. It (along with similar developments in other countries and the debasement of the European Cup into the "Champions" League) was always no more than a stepping stone to a European League.
This sort of nonsense seems to indicate the money men have now set their sights on a "global product".
As far as I'm concerned they're f*cking welcome to it. If I want a global product I'll buy a Big Mac.

But people buy Big Macs. And lots of people love the all-seated stadiums, international 'stars' and afternoon's "entertainment" that the Premiership provides.*
To ensure a long term future YCFC needs to 'play the game' a little more without losing its character or else face an ageing supporter base propping up the club while moaning about an inexorable decline in their institution. It's kinda like the Church of England.
Anyone got any ideas? I certainly don't. I noticed that there were a large number of primary school kids at BC yesterday but free tickets can't be the end of it.
*I don't. But a majority will.

Very true, but fewer people buy Big Macs now than a decade ago.
The people seeking to globalise football in the same way they've globalised other forms of entertainment will no doubt be well aware that the bubble will one day burst, but then they'll just shift their capital into something else and not give a flying f*ck about who will be left to pick up the shattered remnants of a once-great game.
To abuse a horticultural metaphor, they're encouraging big green leaves and fantastic flowers at the top of the tree, but ignoring the need for healthy roots to achieve long-term successful growth.

I think you'll find a certain Mr. Hedge has copyright on all horticultural metaphors.
