This is not funny but the way the situation got out of hand has a certain farcical element to it.

No doubt some red top reporter is, as we speak, offering tenners to receptionists/hospital porters to find out if she really did have a miscarriage.

It does illustrate what a strange culture there must be in top flight football if players consider that a spouse's miscarriage won't be viewed as serious enough by their managers and associations to warrant returning home. |

I don't think FAI are to blame. They put him on a private jet and when I first read this story it was just at the mixed up grandmother's stage.
but then you have to think what an idiot, did he not think that his reason for pulling out a national squad might be reported. Then to dig a bigger hole by saying "oh silly me it was the other granny" it's just daft.
Makes you wonder what agents do to earn their 10% - surely if their player is suffering a family crisis then they should be there for the lad
It's sad that he has to make a public apology and at the end of the day he nowt but a young kid on a shed load of cash.

Jesus the guy has nothing to apologise for, as has been said he's young and said what he knew would be viewed as 'serious' enough to allow him to get home to his girlfriend!

What's more odd is that the FAI went to the trouble of hiring some sort of private eye to check if his grandmothers had actually popped their clogs.

I know footie players aren't always viewed as the brightest people, but didn't he think that- once they'd been able and willing to find out one grandmother hadn't died, they might find out that the other hadn't either?
