Well the Red Bulls do/did have Youri Djorkaeff. If you go and see the Mets, they're rubbish but MSG is awesome and make sure two of you make trips to the bar if you need more than 3 beers.
The City itself is amorphous and you need a fair bit of time to get used to it and adapt, the meet packing district is good for bars though the name lends itself to a more YMCA feel.
Shopping wise the only bargains to be had are on electrical goods, though the dollar rate has improved. Bloomingdales is good but not ideal with a hangover.
The Statue Of Libery, I felt, was something of a let down size wise. It doesn't dominate the sky line as TV and other media portray it. The Statton Island ferry is also a pretty manky expeience, it's good to chalk it off though.

Fair point, but my location used to be York because I was ashamed to reside in the dregs of West Yorkshire.
Oh, I see...Scarborough!

If Scarborough have any sort of future, in the form of a sunday morning team or even in some semi-pro league somewhere, they should have your following. They need it more than we do.
Should York ever follow Scarboroughs sad fate, I could never bring myself to support another team. Never. |

Surely you can never "have too many part time fans" Tommi? Anyone who pays at the gate and puts money into the club is welcome in my book. I would even let Saddam in, if they hadn't have gone and hung him.
Maybe not Leeds fans though, there are some limits........... |

See where you're coming from Mark, but it's not about that for me.
It made me sick seeing so many faces I've never seen before at the Morecambe home game, if they want to support the team, become loyal, not part time because they've got nothing else to do.

My post was fairly tongue in cheek really, Tommi. But to tackle the issue seriously for a second - I think that any club will always have a percentage of fans who are diehards, a percentage who come most of the time and a percentage who only go to the bigger games and so it goes on until you get those who only come for a Wembley type match. My mum was one of them! I am not sure there is anything wrong with that, we all are casual fans of something - I occasionally go to watch Yorkshire cricket for example, but would never get a season ticket.
What I can understand your annoyance at, is when fans who turn up for every game, miss out on a big match because of "part timers" - but then that is difficult to police, especially for a club that will only sell out a game, say once every five years or so. How do you go about it, beyond giving season ticket holders preference? Programme vouchers have been tried but not everyone buys a proggy.
Not being patronising here Tommi, but I used to get annoyed by part time fans when I was younger, now I am just grateful for their cash and accept that a clubs fanbase is made up of people with very differing levels of commitment. To be honest, I also have come to think how lucky I am to have something in which I can lose myself in for 90 minutes. In other words - I value that fact that I "care" to that extent, cos your casual fan does not get that.
Okay - being a York fan is mainly about watching mediocre football, with shed loads of disappointment thrown in for good measure. But the sheer elation you feel when we have success - well, to me thats the reward for all that attendance and commitment. Cos without that, there isn't the odd massive high - with or without proggy vouchers! So, next time you have to rub shoulders with a few glory hunters, feel sorry for 'em rather than annoyed by them!

I'm sure there was fans who lived between York and Scarborough who'd 'support' both clubs, not with the passion that Tommi does but finacial support through their patronage and when Scarborough attained league status maybe they visited them a little more than us, with the prospect of village green footabll we'll maybe get some back, who knows, but let's accept them as City fans for now at least.

It might have something to do with the fact that for the last year or two, you've been coming on here and posting anti-York City video links and Pro-Scarboro links and generally working as hard as you can over the internet to re-ignite the "rivalry" which you later in this thread went on to claim was non existant for the last three years which - in fairness - can't be right because two seasons ago Scarboro football Club went ahead and printed tickets for the game against york with the words "Clash Of The Titans" on the top.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure you're a lovely person deep down and that you really don't mean to continually contradict yourself - thus getting confused as to why people laugh at you when you do so with such ease and naivety - but maybe, just maybe, you're own general foolishness and hypocricy (sp?) is "What the problem is, Like" ???
tool.

Well I thought it was great to see so many 'new' & 'new-old' faces at this game!
Just MAYBE they liked what they saw & will come back again next season Tommi, that is unless they read such comments as yours on here eh?
Everyone has to start somewhere & if we gain a few new fans through such big games, then that's fine by me!

Just my opinion ref, but I think it's rather naive to think that. I know people who went to the playoffs who would laugh at me if I asked them to come to a chilly February fixture at home to Histon, however well we're doing. I agree on the prospect of new fans though, especially young kids, but I doubt those two games will sway Premiership allegiances of the teens and adults.
