Peter Crouch (Victor The Giraffe)

Rio Ferdinand He just prances about and makes far too many mistakes think he is more bothered about his appearence than performance
Wayne rooney or 1 in 4 as i call him because thats how many good games he has and he allways acts like a spoilt child
Jermaine jenus How the hell does he get in the England squad
Cses Fabrigas far too lightweight for the premiership
Micheal Ballack He is just going through the motions and picking up a fortune in wages he is another one of Chelsea's terrible galactico buys

Sadly most of the over-rated, over-paid players are English. Dyer and Jenas spring to mind straight away, followed by Barton and Carrick. Then there is Defoe, Bent, Bridge and possibly worst of all, Stewart Downing.
Disagree about Ferdinand though, he is the genuine article. Lampard is an odd one, not sure about him, can be good on his day. Gerrard is superb and Terry okay. Owen is class when bits of him aren't falling off. The rest - pah! |

I agree completely and would add the likes of Nigel Reo-Coker, Luke Young, Micah Richards.... I could go on.
The problem with this country is the media have a tendancy to hype our players up so much all they are every going to do is fail to live up to our expectations.

What? Have you watched the lad, he has been one of their best performers for two years now. He may be small, but he stands up against the big boys well and his game revolves around passing and attacking, he leaves all the dirty work to Gilberto. The problem with Arsenal has been up front and I just remembered Adebayor is very overrated, no where near worth the amount that was paid for him!

Fabrigas is amazingly skillful, especially at such a young age. Will go on to be the best in the world before he is 23 IMHO. |

The problem with most of the English players that get mentioned on here is that whilst they have potential they are unproven at the highest level. You can't say Rio Ferdinand is overrated because he is a quality technical defender who has proved himself at International and Champions League Level with Leeds and Man U. The transfer market is inflated but when you consider £20 million been quoted for Micah Richards and Anton Ferdinand after a few good games his price was a bargain.
For people who think Ballack is overrated I would say lets see what happens next season. A year is a long time in football just ask Christiano Ronaldo.
Shame about Kieron Dyer has bags of ability but is injury prone and perhaps dosen't have the right attitude. |

You are probably right about Ballack, and that's why I missed him out. The reason I say Rio is that he is a very good defender, but everyone makes him out as the best, including himself. There are at least 5 better than him now (Vidic, Terry, Toure, Carragher and Gallas) and one that will be better very soon (Agger) in the Premiership, let alone Europe. I do not dispute he is good, I just think there is too high a view of the guy, hence why I think he is overrated.

Disagree with those few Carrick does the things that most fans watching football on tv might miss, the runs off the ball, breaking up play etc.
Defoe is by far the most under-rated striker in the England set up, he can play with his back to goal and behind the opposition defence, how many others can say that? Johnson and Owen can only play in behind, rooney and crouch can only come to feet and play back to goal. as a defender i'd assume at any level he'd be a tricky player to mark, much more so than say Johnson or Crouch.
Bent has scored goals in a struggling team, a good acheivement considering the service he's had all season.
Bridge has been quality the times i've watched him this season, most notably the two goals he set up last saturday the crosses were inch perfect, something that Ashley Cole hasn't done for about 3 years, go over the half way line.
and whoever said Luque was over rated, he never has been rated in England, therefore any rating at all would make him surely over-rated.
my 5 would be:
1.Khalid Boulahrouz
2. Stephen Carr
3. Pascal Chimbonda
4. Frank Lampard

Titus Bramble over-rated? Is he even rated?
My five:
1) ASHLEY COLE
Wayne Bridge has outperformed him in every department this season, yet is an underused benchwarmer to the egotistical little twit for both England and Chelsea.
2) FRANK LAMPARD
The biggest big game bottler in the world. Yes he can score deflected free kicks against Watford, but when it comes to England he's annonymous.
3) RIO FERDINAND
Rio, you've been "murked". What does that mean anyway? f**k off and plead ITV for a contract for your sh*t wind up show...they'd give you it, then we can all see your ugly mug even more.
Or we could just not watch it.
4) EMILE HESKEY
"He's been excellent for us this season" said Jewell. So good infact, that he's creamed out twenty goals, like every £7 million striker should, and guided Wigan to mid-table safety.
Oh.
5) NEWCASTLE UNITED
Not including Shay Given and the unfortunate Michael Owen, but most of the rest of the team have either a serious ego problem, or are just young players who have been hyped up but simply cannot cut it (Ramage, Patterson, Huntington etc).
Manager- STUART PEARCE
Yes, it is hard not to like him, but anyone who can see a prolific strike force in Samaras and Corradi needs better scouts, or simply is not a good manager.
Thus leaving him in pole position for McLaren's job when the oh so mighty England don't make the Euros.

1. Kanu - Had a good start to the season and then turned back into the donkey he is.
2. Adebayor - The next Kanu. Moments of brilliance but pre and proceeded by spectacular mess-ups. Again and again.
3. Micah Richards - Why was he picked for England? Because Peirce said he should be? No where near up to standard and needs U21 experience.
4. Hesky - Not sure how and why clubs keep buying him for a large amount of money. He's never been a goal machine and can't pass to save his life. Might as well have a rock in attack.
5. Kalou - The worst striker I've ever seen. I don't know how much he cost but I bet it was alot. Can't hit a barn door with a banjo.
Near to the list - Barton, Crouch, Cole (A).
Most under-rated: Bently, Lita, Eboue, Bridge, Smith (A).
No point in his continued existance: Beatie. |

Haven't you got to be "rated" before you can be "overated"?
He's just poor.
