Sandgrounders - need direction from Council
Southport Football Clubs independent supporters trust, Trust in Yellow are set to launch a campaign to acquire directional signs to the football ground. The issue of traffic directional signs is an issue which is controlled by the technical department of Sefton Council.
Trust chairman Jonathan OByrne, along with Southport Football Clubs Chief Executive Haydn Preece met with John Pugh and members of the Sefton Council technical department last year and subsequently received a quote for over £3,000 for the signs.
At present there are just two signs to the ground, at the junction of Preston New Road and Cambridge Road, in Churchtown. The trust considers these signs misleading - merely directing traffic to Churchtown village.
In light of the recent pedestrianisation of Chapel Street, imposition of Bus Lanes on Lord Street and increasing congestion in the town it was hoped a sensible agreement could be met between the respective parties to direct traffic away from the town centre and safely to the football ground.
Southport Football Club is a professional Football Club, in a largely professional league and exposure and backing in the town needs to reflect that, if their status is to remain sustainable. Many counterparts in the Nationwide Conference have received full backing and funding from their council.
Trust in Yellow is eager to raise that profile within the town and surrounding community and plans to get supporters and well wishers to sign a petition at fixtures later this season and it is to be presented to the council at a later date to demonstrate support for the cause .

I've signed it, just because I like signing petitions.

They should get onto their councillors and see if they can get some ward budget allocated to this (though I see John Pugh is already on the case).
It seems a bit hit and miss whether the council supports signage to the ground; York doesn't.... and neither does Newcastle, funnily enough.

If you want to riase your profile I think a few road signs are the tip of the iceberg. Nor can I see the need for the fans of other Clubs, especially when in the case of York, CoYC do not fund signs either and this is not a bone of contention. Couldn't the AA do some for you? Sorry to be a dissenting voice but it seems like a huge waste of time to me.

None of the local authorities that I've worked for have ever provided such signs free of charge. Why should they?
So long as you can get permission from the council to erect the signs on their street furniture then have them made by a specialist sign-making company. (It'll be cheaper and is probably what the council would do anyway. Cuts out the middleman). The people who erect them would need to have certain levels of public liability insurance, probably £5 million, and be approved by the council.

Agreed and certainly not a matter for a petition.

Seem to agree with others on here and cant see what its got to do with us that Southport dont have signs to their ground - so what?? I got to the ground last season with no problem without signs so I dont see the problem
