It has come to my notice that recently a number of people have asked about a variety of Forum or IT issues.
So this sticky is a how do you do that thread. I'll try to answer questions and I am sure others will also contribute if they have specific tips or tricks that may help users.
Please feel free to post questions and/or use this thread to test things out if you wish. Please don't feel stupid, any abuse of unpleasant pisstaking will not be tolerated in this thread.
So fire away, images, quotes, personal messages, viruses and spam....

How do I do a tidy email link? Instead of yorkcityfc.com how do I change it to "Red & Blue"? And when you click on the words red and blue it takes you there?

This works on some forums (ie confguide), but won't work here.

Ah, having just tested it it won't work in e-mails
Doh! Anyone got a better method?

Ok, you use the URL button or type in manually [ url ] (please note I have added spaces so you can see how it looks.)
when you have [ url ] then the trick is to add an = sign BEFORE the second bracket
i.e. [ url= ] once you have that insert the address of the website or email address (please note to add an email address you use rather than http://
Then you add the desired text AFTER the ] <HERE> and then close it off with [ /url ]
put it all together (without the spaces)
[ url=mailto://forum@yorkcityfc.com ]The forum Admin's email [ /url ]
Have a go yourself and see...
and you should get

If you replace the a href with url and the /a with /url and change the < and > to [ and ] you've got it DMN

I have been wanting to know that for ages, edited my last post with the word 'photograph' instead of just typing in the llink

Snapper, if you now want to be a real smartie pants, instead of using the word "photographs" you can actually use a thumbnail image by using the [ img ] and [ /img ] tags with the picture address inside of them and below it say click the picture:

Here's the code with a couple of spaces inserted to make it show up!

P.S Apologies for circumventing your sites Right Click security and using one of your thumbs hope it doesn't infringe copyright. nice ar*e would you care to explain

I presume, hope, you make reference to the new sponsors logo on the back of the player's shorts, see article on official web site. If not it has been a while since I have been told I have a nice .....
(Regarding copyright - I am obliged, under the terms and conditions of the Conference 'contract' I have to sign to allow me to go pitchside, to protect the distribution of the photographs. But I am sure there are ways and means of downloading them but at least they will have copyright on them)

Over the last few days I've noticed plenty of forum names turning up as spam email senders in my email inbox - the occurence of Reg Hedge, TOTP and tod morden all in the same day means something's going on somewhere.
This happened to anyone else? Anything I can do about it?

I've reported all of them as spam to the webmail administrators, if that helps. (probably not but it was the only thing I could think of!)

Try this Dan keyboard help (It also might show you how to use capital letters!)
It's written for students to activate US keyboards, but you should be able to follow it & just set to 'English United Kingdom' instead of 'Yank'

You go to an online hosting service, somewhere like http://imageshack.us and upload your picture to there...
Once you have done that it will provide you with a link...then you copy that link and paste it between the links and hey presto...
When you do upload it, it will give you the option of resizing your image...a smaller image helps people on slower links to view it faster...
Hope that helps...

Does anyone know a really good FREE DVD player for windows. I used to use PowerDVD without problems, but on my new PC it won't install. I've tried Media Portal (an open source DVD player), but its very badly designed (very badly is an understatement......)
I've also tried the latest Windows Media player and Real Player versions, but with no joy. They play the audio but not the video.

Not free, but for around a fiver on ebay, I use Intervideo WINDVD 7 & am pretty impressed with it. Or for a couple of quid more you can get the 'Platinum version', though not sure what extra it does.

AVG Free from Grisoft is excellent with updates at least weekly if not more.
Completely free and better than Norton etc...
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
Hope it helps

Well thanks for the ideas guys, but none of them worked. I have however been able to dig out a copy of powerdvd that works just fine
On anti-virus stuff, I find Removeit is great for picking up things that sneak past AVG and Spybot and like them its free and has regular updates.
Well worth having IMO.

No problem, my new system is very funny with what it runs and what it does not. I've tried around 4 open source and freeware DVD players, none worked.
