Does it seem that the news now tries to cover every bit of racially motivated crime that goes on? If I didn't know better, it seems they're spreading so much unrest and hatred that I'm not surprised that atrocities like this happen.

If that had been the other way round, we would have heard endless protests from all the Muslims about racism, and problems that they all face in this country
RIP Kriss.

It's the denial. The apologists play into the hands of the extremists. If you look at one of the other sub stories you even have some do gooder claiming that it isn't a racist issue but a youth issue.
More the issue is that we live in a divided and secular society where racism exists both ways. The biggest stumbling block to Unity are the White Middle Class Liberals who play into the hands of the extremists on both sides.

I got called a white f**k by a taxi driver the other day when he tried to charge me a quid more. I just bit my lip.

On a serious note. Are you aware of the Mohamed Parvaiz case that happened in Huddersfield ? That is the problem it's the "them and us" mentality.
They feel threatened and in some cases rightly so. Multicultural Britain is failing because of the divisions that our society keeps creating.

But why Lem? Why let them push you about, and make you afraid to say anything to him?

I don't know. The hassle I suppose. Riled me for days though after.
I agree in part with TT, it is a very touchy subject. I'm not aware of the case, no. Suprising, considering you hear much more of racism against blacks than whites. If there is more then why do white people feel so intimidated to walk around in dominantly black areas? Is it just paranoia or is there substance to this? There certainly does seem to be a 'pack' mentality in the area of Huddersfield I live in, so much so that I can't wait to come home at the end of the week (and I live in Clifton!). It's a debate that is really frustrating, and can tempt you to say "it you don't like it, f**k off" but I suppose it does go much deeper than that. I'm certainly not a racist, and utterly despise outdated xenophobic attitudes, but I can certainly relate to Tommi's initial comment:

Personally I have never received any racism, and neither has any of my white friends. And we lived in a predominantly Muslim area for a year. I know quite a few black and Asian people who have had problems though. The reason that there are less racist crimes committed by black and Asian people is to do with numbers. There are more white racists in numbers, but I bet if you looked at the percentages of racists in each population there would be as many racist whites, as black and Asians. Probably the same can be seen by crime rate. However, the real problem area at the moment is the increase in racial tensions between the black and Muslim communities. There is a real issue there that is often overlooked.
Also, not sure I totally agree with the term 'black areas' being no-go areas. The black, Chinese and Hindu communities are relatively well settled and on the whole (obviously not the case everywhere, just like some non-whites would not dream of going to certain areas) are ok places for a person to go whatever colour of the skin. I think the real no-go areas at the moment are the Muslim areas, (which are different from Asian areas). It is these areas that are becoming more and more insular and causing more and more problems. This is why we need to reach out to these populations rather than use a stick and tell everyone to be like us. Of course they have to accept some of our culture, for example freedom of speech, but we also have to tolerate the fact they are different and may do things a bit differently (e.g. dress).
PS. the taxi driver sounds like a tw*t, and I believe it would be very hard to comeback against that. No one expects it. I'm sure I would struggle to say anything in the heat of the moment.

No he doesn't Dave. So he's in the wrong, but he's not using racism, and he's not doing it in a foreign country.

But do you not think that someone who labels someone from a foreign country is not also being racist by labelling the foreigner as THEM?

No, not when that's his way of integrating, by calling someone a 'white f**k'. If he doesn't like it, f**k off yourself.

Whichever Politician trys to promote racial integration in this country will certainly have hijab on their hands. With that in mind, why not try to promote it via music or some other popular media? This could really break down barriers - perhaps even a Asian/Muslim girl band to dismiss claims of oppression against women?
* Girls-a-shroud
* Jihadi-waddy
* Spice Route Girls
It could really catch on remove the mystery behind the veil and promote understanding. Maybe TV could be used to promote and re-inforce Asian or Muslim women as modern day media heroes? Burkha-rac - A woman in occupied Iraq solves crimes will driving around in a "vintage" car - (1982 Renault 5) It could be worth a go....
