I've an "appointment" a week on Friday (for the weekend) just outside of Glasgow and was wondering if any of you train experts had any cheap travel tips. As it stands looks like I will have to drive as £72 sounds a bit much to me for the age of the train
Any ideas would be appreciated
Noddy

Remember railcards are always good. If not look for two single tickets rather than returns and book in advance. Usually you can get singles to Glasgow for £23 a go, especially if they are around 12ish or later in the evening. If you are going on Friday I would look fast as these advance tickets get snapped up pretty quick. Also, Sundays are usually quite a good day to get cheap singles. In fact, if you look now you can get single tickets for 46.50 in total without railcards. But, you have to go about 12 on friday and come back on sunday.
It's all on www.thetrainline.com or www.nationalrail.co.uk

No real travel advice but try a comfortable mode of transport coming back, it might be hard to sit with a "battered mars bar" Don't BMI fly to Glasgow from Donny?

First of thanks but I reckon leaving early (ie dinner time) may be a probelm so will have to think about the two singles (never spotted that option though ta
Secondly you're quite right Yorklass
Finally doesn't look like theres a BMI flight from donny up that way, the only one I could see was from East Mids (I think) and was in the region of £120 each way

I was at uni in Glasgow last year and came back most weekends, singles cost me between £11 and £16 (and I don't have a railcard). Depends what time of day you're travelling, though. |
