Well done CityTillIDie for pointing this out it is great to see young people respecting the spirit of poppy day.

You can bluetooth it to me on Sunday CityTillIDie.

Seriously, it's really bringing the Haig fund up to date. When I was a kid you used to see old boys on the street corners in town often with only one arm or sat in wheelchairs selling poppies, I don't suppose there's many of them left now. My late uncle lost an arm in the 2nd World war and benifitted from the fund, I also went to school with Andy Walker who was killed on one of the ships that was hit in the Falklands, Coventry I think, and I understand his wife and child benefitted also.

I agree with that Dave. But i just dont think this idea will catch on. Its appauling that poppys had to be GIVEN away the last few years i've seen. I even heard someone say "i'll wear one as long as its free".

Disgusting. But i just dont think this Mobile thing will catch on. I hope it does though.

At least, having a special relationship with Bush, Blair is doing his bit to revive the need for poppies. Rolling Eyes

I was related to your Bush/Blair comment, obviously. Or is your wish to blame everything on them so automatic, you missed your own related comment? Laughing

Nothing wrong with hanging...its an accepted method in those parts (usually for innocent anti- Saddam govt people). No use the EU getting all involved now...bleeding hearts !

Yes, he deserves to be hung, but then it's a tad unfair that it's only him being sent to the gallows.

There are two or three others about to experience the "drop" and a couple more who will get 20 year plus sentences. What about Tariq Aziz though - cannot see his name amongst them and am sure he was arrested in connection with all this???

In the interests of the continuation of 'democracy' in Iraq I wouldn't have expected any other verdict. Even if they spared his life and jailed him for the rest of his days he'll still be a martyr to some people. Personally I'd withdraw the troops and leave them to it, hoping that they DON'T ever get WMD's. Bit too late for that now though. So I guess we have to make the best of a bad job and hope it gets resolved sometime soon. Not that I think that'll happen. It's one big bloody mess TBH.

I was rather thinking of leaders of countries who have also instructed/approved mass murder but who appear to escape scot free.

Why would I be bothered either way? I am not angry or upset by it. Saddam was a dictator, but then most of the US puppet governments around the world are no better or worse. So if they are stupid enough to make him a martyr that's their look out isn't it?

I don't support the medieval practice of state sanctioned murder, but expected little else. It was a forgone conclusion.

The script was written by Wolfowitz & Co years ago. Wouldn't want Saddam revealing too much about his past dealings with the US during the Iran-Iraq war etc.. would they.

I still find it fascinating that no one has genuine control in Iraq right now, but this "kangaroo court" is seen as legitimate. Why are the US so opposed to the International Court or the Hague?

Nice to see the same people howling for blood and vengeance are pretty much the same ones who backed, assisted and then protected Pinochet for years.

I expect nothing but barbarism from Bush & Blair or their new puppets in Iraq.

If you think that this farcical show trial is any better than those held in Moscow in the late 30's or the bizarre and paranoid McCarthy witch hunt of the 50's you are grossly deluded and deserve to reap all you are encouraging to be sown by warmongers and state sponsored pirates.

Whether Saddam is hanged or not is no longer the issue. Whether the US drags us all into a bloody global conflict is far more to the point surely.

Oh and if this stunt saves Bush's bacon domestically in Wednesday's mid terms of course...timing was perfect. Why am I not surprised.

He was a nasty b*****d, who I thought looked like he was rather shaky in court. I do not feel sorry for him one bit. It is just a shame we cannot have justice against all nasty ba****ds and bad and corrupt regimes. But, America will pick and choose as it wants. Why not take action on North Korea, Burma, Sudan, Belarus, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Israel, Russia etc.? All have either commited acts against UN resolutions, taken part in genocide, are corrupt or rule with fear. (Suppose the US could be added?!) Not in the interests of the US and it's allies, that's why.

So you are advocating a global war Confused:Impossible ! Give it time. Face facts Iraq was the priority at the time and will be a better place thanks to the War. We can't leave now. The stakes are too high and if you want vindication check out the huge turnout on the streets yesterday to celebrate or more relevant the Massive Turnout in the Elections held last year. Where Iraqis were free to vote for whoever they liked. There are battles ahead but Democracy is working and will work there.

Totally agree with you on the way they've timed this all, but I don't think it'll save his bacon.

The Republicans will lose one house, maybe both.
