Best thing about Christmas is that it's only 4 months from the start of the cricket season.

No Tim - The best thing about Christmas is - If you are a York City fan - there is no football to interupt all those lovely days spent with the family!

fwiw, i fecking hate xmas and i hate even more the fact that it now starts in september. being a devout aetheist, i have decided this year to celebrate honnikah and divali. hey, i might as well, they are all equaly significant.
and im sure even devout christians have issues with the 120 days of christmas and rabid commercialism fuelling debt and misery.

Surely the best thing about Christmas, for all you GOOD CHRISTIANS must be church...
For an Atheist like me it is simply a dull, uneventful day devoid for once of most average morons...

Wrong, I may be Osama Bin Laden as I have an awfully bad stomach and I keep coughing...
I just ask the nice DGSE agent outside...
Nope Osama is apparently just a made up character to aid US world domination, just like Santa Claus...

My worry is you'd try to "log on to" anything with a pulse, or at least still warm...

What a load of miserable scrooges. I love Christmas Day. For a start it is my birthday. It was obviously my destiny for a great one like myself to share my birthday with the messiah.
Christmas Day is special because in todays modern world it sems to be the only day where the Country more or less takes a break and comes to a standstill.
When I was growing up my Mum always insisted that we had to go to Church and go to Midnight Mass. Since she no longer here I have not really bothered but last Christmas the girlfriend and her friend dragged us to the Catholic Church near the Minster and I am not ashamed to say that I actually felt fulfilled and reflective about what Christmas is really about.

Means you can't go anywhere when the huge amount of presents which don't work can't be taken back

We never went to church on Christmas Day which I was always glad about, don't even see the point in it anymore, you have to be nice to all the people you don't like and it's very expensive and commercialised anyway. Quite what Christmas is ACTUALLY about I don't know.
mmmmmm humbugs

For the last few years, we do not do presents except for the kids and it has added a load more pleasure to the whole thing. And before you say it - not just cos I do not have to part with anywhere near as much cash, although I admit there are bonuses to that too!
Seriously tho - when you strip away a lot of the commercial "pressure" that comes with Xmas and the stress of rushing about trying to find what to buy various people - it does become more pleasurabe. For us at least, anyway. It becomes less about money, less of a job and you can concentrate on the other side of things - like all the get togethers, the atmosphere, the way the kids (even ours who are autistic) find the whole thing magical, etc.
I am not particularly religious or anything - but since we knocked pressie buying for all and sundry on the head and made sure everyone knew not to buy for us either - its just been more fun. The pressie thing is outmoded now anyway - lets face it, if you want something that badly - you just go and buy it nowadays (on plastic if necessary) whether it be December, April or August.
So, the message is I suppose - be a Scrouge this Xmas and have fun!! Well - sort of! |

Christmas should be restricted to Christians only, unless you can prove you've been to church all year, understand and preach the gospels then you should be excluded...
People attack Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews et al for celebrating their holy days publicly and the real Christian population of Britain must be, what... 270 octogenarians and 50 sixty five year old men who still live with their mums...
