I've very recently aquired a laptop from a family member free gratis with one minor problem!
It's last use was as part of a network type setup at work and therefore everything is password protected. My major issue is that we don't know the password of the administrator meaning I can't set myself up on there or install anything
I'm about out of ideas now of how to get past the thing without clearing the machine down and starting from scratch. It's running XP Pro SP2 if that makes the task any easier?
Cheers
Noddy

So another Yabba attempt at humour sinks without trace as he realises that he's forgotten to include an all important "a"
I'll ask again or you can PM me if you like Yabba, but why (in your opinion) am I a Judas

If it was 'aquired' via a legal path then why not ask the administrator?
If not then reload Windows, which could be a better option anyway as there will be all sorts of sh*t on the network that you don't want/need. If you need Windows reloading (& don't have the disk) I can do it for you (XP pro + Office 2003 [better than office XP] if you need it), PM me if you want this doing. The only problem is I don't have SP2 on disk, so you may need to download this if you intend using the net.
Unfortunately due to the price (free!) I can't offer a guarantee on this service, I've done stacks of desktops but never done a laptop - but wouldn't expect any problems.

This has worked for me in the past when the admin password of work PCs have been changed.

Very dodgy, this is about the fourth thread you've posted asking for such help with computers. Either you're a walking disaster zone with anything technical, or McIntyre's Big Sting will have their radar beeping in your direction |

Is he gay? Big sting indeed
Did anyone see Semark News (the shop just next to BC) on that the other week? The woman who owns it fought off two crooks!
I remember I used to pop in there before night matches to get a bottle of coke or something. Even though I always wore my City shirt, the bloke used to always ask me the same two questions:
"Are you going to the game? They're going to lose tonight then?"

Yes, definitely re-install Windows.
There will probably be all sorts of junk on there that you don't want, and re-installing is the best way to do it.
If it didn't come with a CD/license to do this, then you will need to purchase one. |

Oh, and if you do use the utility above to change passwords, and the hard drive contains encrypted files, then these files will be rendered unusable on changing the password. Also if it's a work PC they may have done some other secure things to it, and the Administrator account may no longer work.
I'd re-install from a clean version of Windows. Legal ones can be had for very little from ebuyer.com. Expect further reductions when Vista starts to ship. |
