H'mm did not see all this in the media coverage of the World Cup.

Typical BBC though no perspective. The general public will reckon that ALL England fans are like this. Crying or Very sad

thought i might find a thread on here about this!
not sure about anybody else but i think if this hooliganism is to carry on i would prefer it to be on our own soil, out of international sight and without the racial connotations. Question Question Question

Didn't even need that long. Yes the Police can have Orgainsed Hooligans under relitive control but they can't cure the engrained English culture that we see in every town centre every fri, sat night from exporting itself abroad.

Right minded people would be made to be ashamed to be English and I would be from the scenes I witnessed.

of course in context as there were 70,000 england fans there but too right, it shouldn't have happened but the reasons for it happening were less than savoury ...distorted national pride ironically making us look like a bunch of nobheads and a belief that germans are enemies and nazis.
wtf is that all about.....?
at least you can justify throwing a chair at an accy/fax hooligan Surprised

I understand that because you travel to watch the England team you are sensitive to this but sorry why is it that it always seems to be the English who spoil the fun Question

I wouldn't dream of insulting anyone elses national flag, I wouldn't pour Beer over a girl, I wouldn't mock other peoples cultures. I am not saying all English fans are like this but I just don't see this type of Behaviour from normal fans of other countries. Yes I know the hooligan problem isn't just Englands but our Town Centre Culture should noteven be tollerated in Torremolinos, Tenerife anymore let alone Germany.

You should try watching such a thing with my mum like I did. When an English father lost his son and couldn't find him she was pretty straight faced but when she saw a girl in German colours on her dad's shoulders crying as she was caught in some Anglo/German agro she was crying out about how terrible it must be for the children. Ten minutes later when she saw a group of eight/nine year old kids getting really tense watching the game she said "what hope have they got" as if they were smashing things up or injecting heroin.

When I pointed out that it's the first feature of its kind we've seen yet, and that at the end it gave just a quick mention that "the vast majority behaved impeccablysp", I suggested to her that it may be painting the worst picture possible. "Just because it's Panorama doesn't mean it's impartial, does it?" to which she replied "of course it does <you silly boy to doubt such a respected program>". You could also call me a PC liberal namby pamby but she takes the biscuit.

Did you have a sudden bout of blindness when the German and Polish fans were causing problems?

Yes some perspective is called for. There were England fans on the programme who were disgusted by the events like other right minded people.

It is more a reflection of our culture. Go out in France, Germany, Italy etc and you just don't see this. For a start they can take their Beer, they are used to pacing themselves drinking and have more respect for other cultures.

Yes organised hooligans. I didn't see any Germans spitting on an England flag, I didn't see other fans singing about the war and I didn't see fans of other nations pour beer over a young girl and I didn't really see fans of other nations use racially insulting behaviour to fans of other nations.

No doubt you will say that they did but sorry it does not surprise me. Having gone out in Selby last Saturday I can see the mentality of your typical chav who now unfortunately has jumped on the Football bandwagon.

Tony, I bet you picked up the paper this afternoon, saw the t.v. listings, and started bouncing off the walls excited at the prospect of an hours fill of being ashamed to be English. There are plenty who would give anything to live in this country, why don't you get onto one of them (preferably from a country that doesn't have internet access), trade places, and do us all a favour!

The programme followed England fans, not Germans, throughout the tournament, no doubt filming hour upon hour of images, which when you've got 60,000+ in each City, are bound to turn up something 'shocking' every now and again.

I'm sure if they followed the German fans, or a number of other countires fans for that matter, they would have found enough to make a 60 minute documentary.

i dont think you can question his national pride because he doesnt like hooligans. surely it shows much more national pride to dissasociate the sentiments of these people and try and drive forward positive reflectors on our society. by ignoring it we are not respecting ourselves let alone other nations.
i understand that hooligans exist all over the world and i don't have a problem with them per se, its just the racist, distorted national identity they all seem to have and use as a hooligan tool. i'd much prefer 'smack him coz he's got a halifax shirt on' rather than 'smack him coz he's asian or foreign'

Don't get me wrong. I love this country. I hated leaving it and couldn't wait to get back. I wish my Dad hadn't worked out in the Far East so I could have gone to school here. I just think it is a shame that a Country that should have so many reasons to be proud of its History and Achievements is let down by the likes of the people we saw on the telly tonight.

I know people from many different countries and if they were filmed acting like that they would be scared of ever facing their parents. Unfortunately in this Country that dosen't really seem to apply asa much. If anything it is the parents who they probably get it from.

Hmm you have personally been out after every game in each of the countries you have mentioned above and have the evidence to prove this?? Otherwise it is hot air or bytes.

I have personally winessed footy riots on Mauritius between rival supporters of local teams there, many drunk fans too, Muslims v Hindus etc

I don't doubt that but that was footy related not just a night out. Saw similar stuff in Corsica a few years ago. Religion and Politics do interefere with Football abroad. My main point is that the Police can stop the Organised Hooligans but now the idiots who bring disorder to our Town Centres on a night and doing the same to Football.

Germany has a holligan problem, as does Italy, Turkey and Poland, while Spain has racist problems. Spain also has worse alchol problems than us, their "El Botellon" is a festival in which young people from 14-24 take over a City or town center and spend the weekend getting completely sh*t faced, on a scale much bigger and worse than anything ever seen in this country.

It always seems to be the English who spoil the fun as we live in England. The press are also English. They arn't going to sell many papers to the Nimbys reporting other fans causing trouble now are they? Its not a very difficult thing to understand.

Heres a word for you.

Perspective.

Sorry I don't buy most of that. Abroad because there is a more relaxed attitude to alcohol there isn't the problems that you get in Englands Town Centres. It's why 24 hour drinking will never really take off here, for a start no Siesta, the weather and climate don't suit meaning we have to binge drink and then make c**ks out of oursleves alot of the time.

i was in france this yr when they lost the world cup and indeed in 98 when they won..there wasn't even half the drunken loutishness you see here. yes there were riot police present for the 06 final but any aggro was genuine anger and not drink fuelled rage, and of course france has race issues but i didnt see much of that, indeed there were blacks n asians n muslims mingling in quite well in the 20,000+ crowd. just a point, dont over analyse it, just responding to perspectives from other nations.
i liked my last point better anyay
