 |
|
10 - Ian Curtis
9 - Ian Brown
8 - David Bowie
7 - Noel Gallagher
6 - Thom Yorke
5 - Cart Barat
4 - Liam Gallagher
3 - Morrissey
2 - Pete Doherty
1 - Kurt Cobain
I feel sick...
The two numpties from The Libertines in the top five, Liam higher than Noel, Cobain number one.
I'm all for having opinions but the NME's readership should have their ears chopped off.
How long before plastic man Turner from Albanian Monks gets in there?

It's a good job 'Phil Collins' (ie Tom Pathlaw) doesn't have the internet away from 'tour' (ie uni). I'm sure he'd by FUELLED BY MINCE(just for you Deeuu) at the sight of this.

Top 50 Heroes
What's heroic about shooting the back of your head off and being found lying in a pool of your own sh*t?
Cobain was primae facie cocksnot material..

Gary Charles shot himself too
Cobain is no music hero of mine. I think H from Steps should have won

Goodnight chaps

It's all personal isn't it? No point in generating such a list and expecting someone to be influenced by all of them. Christ, in that top ten, only one I can say has seriously had any impact on my teenage years, probably says more about the NME than anything I suppose.

I read the NME for the first time in years the other day and it was absolute sh*te.
Thus, having pricks like Cobain, Gallagher and Doherty in this list is no surprise.
It's more a list of people who the NME have sold copies off the backs of. |

The only music publications I find interesting are Mojo and Uncut, although Mojo are very kind on the reviews. Q magazine has gone totally downhill in the last few years and now seems to be filled with lists every other month such as '100 greatest drummers'.
The last time I bought NME was for the recent Morrissey interview. The potential for such a good article was turned into tedious crap with predicable questions like "When you talk about explosive kegs between your legs...", "are you still celibate?" and "are you currently happy?". A fifteen year old with only the slightest knowledge of Morrissey could have written that article.

Want to work for NME?
We're looking for a top-class news reporter
Are you the best new news writer in Britain?
NME is looking for a committed, enthusiastic and ballsy news reporter to join its award-winning team on NME and NME.COM.
The successful candidate will have an eye for news both online and offline and an endless stream of fresh ideas. You'll be unfazed at the prospect of interviewing the likes of Liam Gallagher and Alex Turner, but will also have the stamina to stand outside a police station all night, waiting for Pete Doherty to be let out.
To apply, send a full CV and covering letter, two news story ideas (one for the mag, one for the web) and an analysis of NME's news service to Julian Marshall, 25th Floor, King's Reach Tower, Stamford Street, London SE1 9LS.
Alternatively, email applications can be sent to . Closing date is Friday May 19. |
Go on Deeuu you know you want to. I would give up all my riches (admittedly not much) to see you interview Mr Doherty.

I believe Alex Turner is a young chap who sings with the popular beat combo Arctic Monkeys. My spies tell me they've had a couple of records in the hit parade |

Totally agree. Used to be v good indeed, now barely passable. TBH I don't bother with any music magazine now, used to get Q, NME and occasionally Mojo. Sometimes buy the first two when on train journeys etc and am reminded why I don't bother. And their free CD's are now crap too.

Curtis and Cobain are the two classic modern examples of musicians who are regarded as geniuses simply because they died young.
No doubt Doherty will be joining them soon enough .....

No you really can't compare the two.
As far as I can remember the NME has always been Sh1te, written by a bunch of talentless vegetarians, who envied the bands because they were all failed musicians who weren't getting any |

The only music magazine I ever bought is Smash Hits in the years before my teens
Still you got some really good stickers free with it as well to stick on your bedroom wall, posters of Debbie Gibson, Sonia, Kim Appleby and you got the lyrics to the songs.
What more could you want. |

47. Ringo Starr.
Some seriously good drummers/percussionists missing off that list.
Pierre Moerlen, Joe Blocker, Ron Bowden, Barrimore Barlow and the chap who was in Stevie Wonder's band in the 70s for starters...

Ringo ahead of Charlie Watts, Mick Fleetwood and Max Weinberg HAS to be a joke !
Cozy Powell's too low as well.
Can't argue with Peart mind you - saw him a couple of years back and he's truly awesome !

Seen about 10 of those live and none of them were better than Jon Hiseman of Colosseum.
