There are some cheap train tickets available for this. From York to Manchester Piccadilly.
Leaving York around 4:30pm, gets to Altrincham just after 6pm, and the return is something like 10:45pm, getting into York at 00:09am. Cost is £13.70.

There is then a tram that runs from Piccadilly to Altrincham costing about £3/£4, or a bus service. |

The pubs in Manchester will have been open for hours by the time you suggest leaving York . Who fancies an early start (and I mean an early start)
4th April has now been designated a "Work, College and School Free Day". City's 10th successive win deserves to see a massive following to the wrong side of the Pennines.

Been there, done the "Altrincham" trip already this season, 17 hours of drinking... was it worth it even though the game did`nt get played? You better believe it. Just a quiet 90 minutes of football for us lads second time around.

Is that £13.70 return? if so, what's the link/button to press to get the tickets that cheap as i always get £24.50ish on the sites i visit.
What's the crack with the tube on the way back? it says it gets in to MAnc Pic at 22.42 and the train leaves at 22.42? Is the tram only 30 secs away from the platform? (i'm not really expecting you to know that, i'll ask the Alty folk later just thought it was strange)
cheers
