A video clip is currently being circulated to the Media in Scotland which clearly shows John Hartson & Stephen Pearson of well known Irish Club Glasgow Celtic singing "folk" songs in a bar with some of the Celtic supporters. Both players appear to chant "IRA" and "Sinn Fein" during the performance.

Prescedent was set for this type of thing when Donald Findlay QC had to resign as Director of Rangers after being filmed singing "The Sash ..." at a private function some years ago.

Gonna be hard for Sellik to explain this one away as "just the craic" ..... Laughing

Pearson is already in his way out isn't he? I'd bet that Hartson's availability would interest a lot of Premiership clubs though if Sutton leaves it might be interesting.

I've seen the video and agree that both players should be banned as the quality of their singing is unbelievably appalling! Shocked

Anyhoo, let's see if the press in Scotland have the balls to go for it given that Celtic's PR machine has always been up there with Downing Street's and protects its own image at all costs.

Gerry McNee in the NOTW recently compared Ibrox on matchday to a Nuremburg rally but seems to have a blind spot when it comes to the Republican "Love-fest" which goes on every Home game at Parkhead. This sadly is a view shared by a number of Scottish "journalists" - Graham Spiers, Mark Guidi and Hugh Keevins are the worst offenders - and Rangers FC don't seem to have the desire to counter the blatant bias from some sections of a supposedly neutral media.

This is Donald Findlay all over again but I for one am not holding my breath for a similar outcome ....

Hartson's second left and Pearson far right for those still confused. Wink

Still photos show both players quite clearly although it's obvious to anyone who knows Scottish Football who they are from the video ....

You can check out stills and more (ahem) constructive criticism at Followfollow.proboards53.com in "The Blue Room"

To be fair, Hartson has the appearance of someone who really would be elsewhere.

Aren't songs like that actually illegal to sing now?

You'd think so .... Evil or Very Mad

No surprise to learn that the Scottish media is currently in the process of killing this story at editorial level as it would upset the minority ....

Interesting that someone e-mailing Real Radio about whether they'd discuss the story on tonight's phone-in had the following response from Station boss Jay Crawford ..

"No thanks David - All I can see coming from this is more hatred and trouble which is the last thing we need in Scottish Football.
I would ignore this thing as it does none of us any good."

So at a time when the Scottish Parliament is taking tough action on perceived sectarianism in society - including arresting supporters for flying certain flags and using certain terms - the media doesn't think the sight of 2 of Scottish Football's best known players singing IRA-supporting ditties in public worthy of comment ?

Recently The BBC found a cartoon of Neil Lennon being hanged on a Rangers Fansite and turned it into a major news story to illustrate the Club's problems with Sectarianism so you'd THINK they'd be interested in this........ Wouldn't you ? Rolling Eyes

Personally I can think of no better symbol of why the Union should be broken up. An idiot Scotsman and an idiot Welshman singing songs about a bunch of idiot Irish.

Get rid of the lot I say, an independant England TODAY.

Aww - I'm sorry !

I should have come running to you when I lived in London and had to pay £24.99 for a pint of watered-down lager and £600 a week for a cupboard in some rich bloke's house ! Wink

Well the story HAS broken in the media up here and guess who ran with it ?

The BBC ? Nope.

The Daily Retard ? Nope.

Radio Clyde ? Yeah right ..... Rolling Eyes

Penry the mild mannered janitor ? Could be ......

Nope ..... actually it was The ABERDEEN PRESS & JOURNAL who were the one media outlet prepared to stand up to Celtic's bully-boy tactics (threats to withdraw advertising/journalists access to players etc are routine stuff for the Parkhead PR department) and run the story.

They helpfully pointed out that the two players in question were part of the (very well publicised Rolling Eyes ) "Bhoys Against Bigotry" campaign launched by Celtic a while back but, obviously watching their backs, said it was the SUPPORTERS chanting "IRA" not the players. (Pearson quite clearly chants "IRA" even cupping his hand to his mouth to accentuate it !)

Wonder now if the media at large (and they ALL have the images) will have the balls to follow this one up ...

It really doesn't surprise me MacPhail. Having lived in NI, I have noticed that the media is less interested in people behaving badly whislt wearing a tricolour than they are in those behaving badly whislt wearing the union flag.

Sign of the times.

Yeah - sectarianism in Scotland according to the great, the good and The Guardian Rolling Eyes only ever works one way.

Mind you, the P&J article seems to have given other sections of the media some Dutch courage and there appear now to be some interesting questions being asked of Celtic and the 2 players involved.
Pearson's agent says the player WAS there but didn't shout "IRA" - I wondered what David Blunkett was doing these days ...

My work colleague always said 'Scotland is NI without the bullets'.
Nice to see media suppression in action.

You get used to it. Rolling Eyes

Ironically, Scotland Today on STV (ITV) ran with the story as it's main headline but Reporting Scotland (BBC) ignored the story completely !

Reporting Scotland were the ones who took a cartoon (ie joke !) of Lennon being hung from an unofficial website and turned it into a major sectarian outrage.

Balanced ? Hmmm .....

It also appears that Radio Clyde (Glasgow's main Radio station) has airbrushed the whole event from history - not for nothing are they known as "Radio Cattolica" by the majority in the West Of Scotland.

Just to update any of you interested (and Phil ! Wink ) .... Sellik's spin machine is working overtime and have now suggested they're having the video analysed as they believe it may have been doctored and the sound added later ! Laughing

What they're REALLY worried about is that this was a function in honour of Jackie McNamara's testimonial and Celtic Chairman Brian Quinn was in attendance.

The "spin" would appear to be that pro-IRA chanting would NEVER go on at a Celtic supporters function and it's all a plot by those big, nasty Proddies to get at their poor little downtrodden Club. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Imagine ....... IRA chanting at a Celtic Supporters do ! Shocked Wink

Remember, this is the Club who have never hidden their "Irishness" and indeed have a tricolor flying over the ground; who provided funds for a huge supporters flag, in honour of Jock Stein, to be painted by a convicted IRA member better known for his pro-Republican wall murals in Belfast; who allowed a pro-Republican/IRA band ("The Wolfetones") to film a video for one of their songs AT PARKHEAD; who only the other week were described by former SCOTLAND captain Billy McNeill as being "An Irish Club playing in The Scottish League" (he was proud of it too ! ) etc etc .....

The BBC still appear unaware of the incident Rolling Eyes but are being bombarded with complaints from Rangers fans over their refusal to run the story despite everyone else having now acknowledged it - there have to be questions asked about BBC impartiality on this one and not it has to be said for the first time either !

As ever, Sellik are playing the "opressed minority" card as they always do in these situations but I reckon this time the evidence is a little too obvious to anyone who's watched it for them to try and lie their way out of this one ......

Unbelievably bad ..... but credit to Clyde who deserve all the praise in the world for running themselves into the ground and providing a good old Cup upset the likes of which we don't get too often up here ! Very Happy

I've been telling all the Celtic fans I know (all 2 of them ! Wink ) that Keane & Lennon can't play together and that it'd be the slowest midfield in history.

Strachan didn't want Keane in the first place and he's only been signed as a glorified PR stunt to keep the 60,000 Irish punters Rolling Eyes who turn up at Parkhead every other week happy.

Ironically, his arrival may well have unsettled their one genuine class player, Petrov, to the point where he now looks likely to refuse a contract extension and a move to The Premiership should happen before next season.

The Tims are going ballistic on the 606 forum, with lots of "Strachan must go" postings.

They're blaming him for Agathe and Sutton going and for how badly they've been playing.

Clyde's second goal was a real cracker, but they also had 2 goals disallowed and missed a penalty! Shocked

Watched the game as there was nothing else on, and Clyde totally outplayed the tims from start to finish! Scoreline flattered Celtic!
