Me and CITD are thinking of getting a Poker Tourney sorted out in the social in the not to distant future as a little fund raiser!
Just testing the water to see if
A, anyone on R&B's interested or know people up for it?
B,What sort of entry fee people would pay?
C, Can anyone help with organising, dealing, rules etc
D, any other ideas
Cheers

I'm up for that, as for entry, depends on how many would come along.

Twenty quid a head with 50% prize money OK or is that too high?

Best way is to download the software from one of the many sites out there, and deposit a small amount and play on small stakes tables. I wouldn't bother trying to learn on the 'play money' tables because it doesn't give a realistic view on how the game is or should be played.

I'll work behind the bar if I can wear one of them visor things that they used to wear in old American films, and those things that stop your shirt sleeves riding up.

Better check if our licence allows this first? (We certainly as far as I recall did not list it as one of the events we run in the licenceapplication but that is not to say that we cannot)

Maybe don't make it public yet until we have got our new licence sorted please otherwise the residents might object as we have applied for extended opening hours.

When we do get the licence I will look into it with the SC committee fellers.

I always thought it was something to do with the action of passing money.
If chips were used and an 'entry fee' is how to get around it.
A landlord once told me that card games are alright as long as not more than £5 passes over the table.
I know of a workingmans club which has at least 60 players every Thursday, i'll ask / go see if anyone wants to check out how they work it.

Well all I will add is UNTIL the licence is sorted then this is all totally unofficial PLEASE and is not being ivestigated in any way by the FC or the members of the Social Club.

I would hate impatience to cause us problems with the application.

Ok but will you let us know when you find out Dave, but to be honest though the locals round here are more bothered about the Arc light centre ?

Here's another Idea
There's suppose to be about 365 pubs, bars etc in York, what if the Club/Press/YMM etc approached them and tried to get a different pub each night for a whole year to have a York City Fund night!
Idea

If you relocate your tournament to Hull, I'll play. Wink

Best place to practise tournament play is at www.pokerpages.com imho.

When you set up the tournament make sure you get the structure set up right. You don't want it going all night, or lasting only half an hour.

BUMP!!!!!

Anyone heard any more about this, I think it could be a real good fundraiser and extremely enjoyable too.

I'll try to find out the latest position re the licence, but would have thought that as long as we were only playing for plastic chips for a prize there would not be any more of a problem than playing in a quiz for a prize.

I'd be up for it if it comes off and £20 sounds ok to me.

Poker, is that trying to get 21, or is that Old Maid?

I spoke with Mike Shannon on Saturday and, subject to him doing a final check, we don't think there will be a problem hosting a Poker night at the SC, provided it is carried out in the form of a competition (i.e. entry fee with prize for winner) rather than straightforward gambling.

Yorkie has kindly offered to let us use the enormous pile of chips he has stored at home.

Once I've got the final OK from MS, I'll try to get things moving.

Can I have one or two volunteers to help with the organising?

And then we'll find out who the real Cincinatti Kid is! Wink
