Real Madrid CF have reached an agreement with Santos FC to sign Brazilian forward Robinho for €24m, the club announced on Thursday.
Fee compromise
The deal has been mooted ever since the player helped Brazil to the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup, with Robinho refusing to train or play for Santos after they rejected an initial Madrid bid - saying they wanted his full buy-out clause worth more than €41m. However, a compromise has been reached, with the player waiving his 40 per cent share of that sell-on amount. He underwent a medical in Brazil on Thursday.
Deal confirmed
Madrid's director of communications Antonio García Ferreras said: "We will pay €24m, that is 60 per cent of the buy-out clause. The other 40 per cent should be paid to the player and his agent but they will forego their share." The fee has been deposited with the Confederation of Brazilian football.
Dream fulfilled
Wagner Ribeiro, the 21-year-old's agent, added: "Robinho is just waiting for a transfer certificate to travel. He waived the 40 per cent to which he was entitled to be able to fulfil his dream of playing for Real Madrid."
'Ideal country'
Robinho himself had said: "Spain is an ideal country for Brazilian players and I know Real coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo very well. My mind is at Real Madrid." His new club's UEFA Champions League bid begins in the third qualifying round, with the draw made on Friday week. |
Personally I think it's a good move for both parties. All the decent talents need to further themseleves by leavcing countries like Brazil, where they are paid a pittance to over here in Europe, and they can play a lot better quality football.
For Real Madrid, it's an excellent capture, especially as they have got him for less than they expected. He is certainly the next Ronaldo, and will probably be even better in a few years.

Hopefully the signing of Robinho might convince Owen into wanting a move back over here. I would say he is as worthy as any of Raul, Ronaldo, Robinho etc of a starting place but personally I would like to see Owen come back to the Premiership.
Good signing for Madrid though is Robinho, an exciting young player with a good future in the game.

Disgracefull the way he behaved at Santos, ofcourse they won't want him to leave. He is meant to be a profesional for god's sake and shouldn't spit his dummy out like that. Look at the way Crouch behaved. He eventually told Southampton he wanted to go to Liverpool but kept training as hard as ever and was a great lad according to Harry.
To be perfectly honest I know nothing about the Robinhio so I won't comment on how good he is. I think they would have done better though spending a lot less on a couple of English centre halves. Upson? King? Would have been a lot cheaper and would have made their weakest area stronger.

Their team is looking gradually weaker by the season.
Ivan Helguera and Walter Samuel are both world-class CB's, and why would the two CB's that they need to sign have to be English?
They did need a new striker. Owen is not Real Madrid standard sepite what any of the English nationalists say. Raul and Ronaldo are still class, but apart from that, they have no-one.

But their not though!!! I watched plenty of Madrid last season to know they aren't world class. You just have to look at some of the stats, I believe Iker Casilas had to make the most saves in La Liga last season.
And they don't need to be English but I think the 2 players I said wouldn't have cost much and are great players who would love to play for Madrid. Same goes for a lot of English centre halves instead of some Italien who is scared he will mess up his hair.

-OK. Walter Samuel before he went to Real last season was 'off the hook' and one of the best defenders in the world. Last season at Madrid, he obviously found it difficult in his first season as the Spanish game is a lot quicker than in serie A. I van Helguera is the club cpatian, and he is a colossus.
-You talk about stats. Real had the second-best defence ni the Primera Liga last season, so the defence must be doing something right. Those stats you talk about regarding Casillas can be interpreted like this: He is the best GK in the world at the moment, and certainly was last season. The reason he made more saves is because he can make more saves, whereas other GK's would just let them in.
-The two players you have mentioned(especially Ledley) would probably love to play for Madrid, and would cost about £6m I would think. They are very good CB's, and I agree that they could maybe do a job for Madrid.
-Regarding the Italian's hair-If you had hair like that, you would not want to get it messed up just for the sake of marking someone like Ronaldino, who's hair is coincidentally awful.
