The return leg of the “clash of the titans” has produced an outburst by City’s caretaker manager Viv Busby. Busby proclaimed that he wanted revenge for the 5-1 defeat last Sunday at the hands of the Seadogs with his team wanting to tan the backsides of their coastal neighbours.
York City’s task seems all the more difficult with the injury to Chris Brass meaning some serious pack shuffling will be weighing on Busby’s mind this week. It is expected that Paul Groves may be pushed back into the centre of defence and his gap in midfield could be plugged by either Lev Yalcin or young Byron Webster. Young ‘keeper David Stockdale will likely be on the bench again, unfairly in most fans eyes, as officially he has been a bit “on edge during his last 2 games”.
Shaun Smith is back off his 1 match suspension after he second yellow against today’s opposition a week ago for time wasting. After Smith’s abysmal performance he is expected to be dropped to the bench and will have to wait his turn before being given his chance to make amends. Long term absentee Steve Davis is no closer to a recovery, the ex-captain has been struggling with a hip injury for several months now. Midfield or defensive rock Gary Pearson also suffers with a long layoff expected after he underwent surgery on his shoulder.
Scarborough manager Nicky Henry isn't expecting another walkover when his side travel to Bootham Crescent for the return match on Sunday.
"We would love to score five goals again, but I think this one will be a completely different game. On Boxing Day we finished very well and I think that was the difference between the two sides. I will be hoping for more of the same, but I'm sure this one will be a lot tougher. I'd be happy with one goal and a clean-sheet, that would be perfect."
Henry will wait on the fitness of a number of players after the opening two festive games, with the dreaded virus still lurking around the club. Skipper Scott Kerr came on for the final part of yesterday's 1-0 defeat at Barnet and seemed back to fitness, but Colin Cryan is still struggling despite playing the full match at Underhill.
