After the humiliation away at Northwich the players of York City with have to prove their worth by lifting the team away from the drop zone.

Viv Busby punished the team by dragging them in for training on Sunday and revoking their days off during the week. Hopefully the threat of extra training, should York slip up against Crawley, will motivate Busby’s men. York will hope to avenge their 1-0 defeat by Saturday’s visitors, the Minstermen visited the Broadfield Stadium last September and were duly seen off courtesy of a Chris Clarke blunder.

Long term absentee Steve Davis is not closer to a recovery, the ex-captain has been struggling with a hip injury for several months now. Midfield or defensive rock Gary Pearson could return to action to add bite into the centre of the park, but may find he is not match fit.

Upfront City have an embarrassment of riches but all are underperforming in the way of goals. Paul D. Robinson, Paul Robinson Mk2, Lev Yalcin, Lee Nogan and Andy Bishop are all in contention for the available places however it is expected that the two latter players will be starting with the three remaining strikers battling it out for a place on the bench.

Play-off hopeful’s Crawley Town will be aware that a win at Bootham Crescent will lift them to 3rd place in the much converted Play-off zone depending on other results.

If Crawley overcome York on Saturday they will be the first Conference team to complete a double over York City this season. The omens are good for Crawley; Red Devil’s Manager Francis Vines has a fully-fit squad to choose from for the first time this season because of the return to fitness of striker Charlie MacDonald. He has missed the last seven matches with a groin injury but is expected be named among the substitutes.
