City start their conference campaign with a tough, tricky encounter away at Aldershot, however it's a match Chris Brass's men will be looking to win if they have any intentions of an instant return to the league.

With the opening game of the season again being away from home, Brass and his troops will be relying on a strong away contingent for support and the boost his side too a much needed competitive win - something that has eluded City since the beating of Carlisle in January of this season.

City will be fielding a new look side, consisting of youth and experience with only a handful of middle aged players. A good mixture of these two elements should see some good results on the pitch as well as helping to bring the younger players through as better players.

To start in goal, short term signing Paul Chrichton looks the more likely of the goal 'keepers, ahead of "number 1" Chris Porter. However other than this, both the formation, tactics and players starting is a mystery with it being not only the 1st game of the new season at York City, but the 1st game of a whole new era at the club. A side full of new faces, all having one simple aim - returning York City football Club too their rightful place of honour, and place their terrific fans deserve. The Football league.

There are two injury doubts for City ahead of the clash however with Kevin Donovan nursing a tight hamstring, whilst lasts years find of the season, Dave Merris is struggling with a calf problem. Other than this Brass has many options to choose from, including a healthy, strong looking strike force that has the addition of height too it – something that was most certainly missing last season.

Aldershot, too have made many summer signings and have quite a new look side in comparison too last season. One of these signings is somebody the Minstermen will have to be on the look out for, with the Ex Barnsley and Grimsby, current Welsh International player, Darren Barnard signing earlier this week.

'Shots boss, Terry Brown also has a full squad too choose from, with that of Darren Barnard surely the 1st to be on the list. It means that both sides come into the game un-tried, untested, but with full squads to choose from. This should mean that an exciting, open, equal game will take place.
