It says a lot about the depth of the pool of English talent that the top Premiership teams are managed by foreigners.

Managed by, and also full of foreigners. The pool of world class English playing talent is hardly deep. We have mediocre players, and need a manager who can exploit their capabilities. Not a weak individual prepared to let the tail wag the dog.

The English managers in question also don't have experience of success - they might be good at keeping a small team in the Premiership time after time, but can they win anything?

Managers who possess excellent man-management skills, and an ability to play to the strengths of their players?

Well that should keep the press occupied then. Shocked

More importantly, Sir Trev for the FA chief executive job, if only as a caretaker

And how much experience have they got of European level football, let alone international?

Exactament!

McLaren, Bruce, Curbs, Allardyce have all done well but have thrived under a siege mentality and quietly gone about their jobs in a quiet, simple manner. The sustainability of their success is questionable and until they bring real success and not just comparative success, there will be many people who question their CVs. Lets see what AC is like now he has the opportunity to flash some cash? These guys all have their merits but I don't think they are the hear and now, they should be slowly integrated into the set-up. Obviously McLaren is there now but he needs more managerial experience. His European season with Boro will be a real litmus test. I like Harry Redknapp too, good with the media, plays football the right way and gets results. there is no shortage of good english managers but are they yet ready? Remember Kevin Keegan, why apppoint the wrong man, purely because he is English?

To throw the cat among the pigeons, what about Martin O'Niell?

Martin O'Neill, good choice.

Or the man with the best track record over the past twelve years, Alex Ferguson?

I'd have either of those.

The bookies near the pub where I go to do the quiz has recently lowered the odds drastically on Arsene Wenger as the next manager - was at 25/1 but went past yesterday and he was down to 10/1. Could be worth a punt - he's out of contract with Arsenal next year and he's refused to enter renegociations.
