Hmm. I didn't realise Carlisle also played against Wilberfoss and Melbourne like us, and when did Yalcin sign for Carlisle??

3 games unbeaten now. Very Happy

Good to see Yalcin getting amongst the goals as well, hope that's a sign of things to come for next season.

Match report

City 0-0 Wilberfoss
City 9-0 Melbourne (Yalcin 5, Savic 3, Collins)

The first half was contested against a spirited Wilberfoss side who were solid at the back but gave little threat going forward. City had several shots from the edge of the area go wide or over, notably from Matthew Coad, number 11 and a free-kick from Lee Nogan. The half ended 0-0 and Wilberfoss were replaced by a Melbourne side considerably lower down the football pyramid.

Early on it seemed that Melbourne would provide just as difficult to break down, but eventually Lev Yalcin broke the deadlock with a powerful strike, and soon added another. Sinisa Savic, the German trialist, then showed his power to burst throught the defence and make it 3-0, and when he pounced again after Melbourne messed up the centre the signs were ominous for the amateurs. 4-0 soon became 6-0 as Yalcin added two more and Savic got his own hat-trick with a strong header from a corner.

Young Stephen Collins, who had played all the match on the left-wing with little success, came inches away from a superb goal, but soon made amends by rounding the keeper and slotting home. The rout was completed when Yalcin notched his fifth near the end of the game. Credit to the Melbourne keeper who made a series of fine stops to keep the score from reaching double figures. Overall, it's difficult to make too many judgements from a game against such lowly opposition, but there were encouraging signs and a few clear problems (Nogan and Donovan looked behind the pace even up against a Sunday League side).

Ratings

GK - Porter: 7 - Had little to do but was vocal and commanded his area.
RB - Kamara: 6 - Strong in the air and got forward well, but one or two of his passes went astray.
LB - Smith (?): 6 - Not sure who this guy was but he had a quiet game.
CB - Davies: 7 - Caught out a couple of times but recovered well, appeared confident and should be pushing for a first-team place next season.
CB - Halliday (?): 7 - Can't remember his name, Darren something, but a John Terry lookalike who was good in the air and showed promising signs.
RM - Donovan: 4 - Hopelessly short of pace, god knows what possessed Brassy to sign this guy.
LM - Collins: 6 - Didn't get involved in the game until late on in the second half when he had a couple of chances and scored one.
CM - Ashcroft: 6 - Was wearing the captain's armband and seemed to play a David Batty-like role allowing Coad the freedom to roam.
CM - Coad: 8 - Every time I've seen this guy he's looked the most likely player to create something, my advice to Brassy would be to ditch the old guys like Groves and give Coad a few runs out.
CF - Bishop: 5 - Not convinced by this guy at all to be honest, it seems that his hairstyle isn't the only thing he has in common with Aron Wilford.
CF - Nogan: 6 - Slow as always, but some nice touches.

Subs
Yalcin (CF): 9 - Fair enough, he was playing against a Sunday League defence, but he clearly has that extra something missing from most of our other players.
Savic (CF): 8 - Seemed very strong and showed composure to net his three goals. Would like to see this guy in action against better opposition.
Stockdale (GK): 6 - Came on near the end, had nothing to do.
Webster (CM): 6 - Another late substitution, got forward well.
Green (RM): 7 - This youngster seemed sprightly running up and down the wing, even if he does look like a complete chav.

There were a few other subs who I can't remember properly - a black guy in midfield who was fairly impressive, someone with no number on the back of his shirt and a couple of others.

Darren Hollingsworth, comes from middlesbrough. Definately a player with good potential. And yes, he looks like Jon Terry.

Lev Yalcin's shot knocking a little kid flying. Really not funny. Not at all. Ahem.
