The England players are threatening to go on strike. Shocked I thought they had already done that. Confused

Against Portugal.

Of course the next thing'll be that the hussy of a secretary resigns, sells her story for six figures and then appears on "I'm a Celebrity - get me out of here" and every Sky One programme for the next 12 months ... Rolling Eyes

As a famous man once said ..... Don't dip your pen in the Company ink !

If that's true {and I doubt it's that much !} then it's a sad reflection on the road the media in this Country's been going down recently. Rolling Eyes

This is the only Country where a fat ugly bird who once appeared on "reality" tv could become a "celebrity" on account of her being thick as pigshit ! What a claim to fame huh ? "Look at me - I'm a f**kwit !"

Actually, that's not a bad name for the next "reality" show ..... Wink

But the FA have played into Sven's hands, if he goes he will now go with a multi million pound pay off (well unless he has a bank account with Barclays and then he might have to wait a year or so for the dosh!)

If the FA did things by the boo and did not try to cover up to protect thier own maybe the FA would have had a case to dismiss Sven witout any pay off (none of us know the full story so we cannot really say he should stay or go).

Palios's action shows some sort of guilt and Sven will win any industrial tribunal if sacked with no compensation.

The FA would not have put the compensation money into grass routes football, but imagine what good it would have done. Time for a complete clear out at the FA. Time for people who care about the game and the fans not themselves to be running the game, not for fuddy duddies and business men who have not stood on the Terraces or only care about sponsors, the Premiership, how much money they personally can make and which bimbo they can shag next!

I bet their won't be a clear out but now is the time for one!

I had thought Palios might make a good Chief Exec, but he's been utterly spineless.

We seriously need a revolution at the top of football in this country.
Problem is, there seems to be no way of forcing it.

Agreed.

However, with regards to the whole "Svengate" affair - personally I would hope the FA don't sack Sven over this. I don't think anyone really cares whether he has or hasn't had affairs - it's nothing to do with his job as a football manager. No doubt the same thing happens in offices all over the country. It shouldn't be an issue.

Just think. Erikkson's on £4m a year. That's £80k a week. He manages the team for about 15 games a year. The rest of the time he does nothing more than "scout" English players who could, but never under him, make it in the national team.

If some player earned £80k a week for 15 appearances each season we'd say it stinks yet no-one complains about Sven picking up that much for the same amount of work.

Those figures look even worse if you compare them to what Otto Rehagel and the Czech boss etc are earning.

Let's face it, the team pretty much picks itself so it just needs someone to mind the shop.

If I were the FA I'd capitalise on the discontent at Newcastle and offer the job to Sir Bobby. I'm sure he'd be ok for the next two years.

Shocked You feeling alright mate?

If Sven does have to go, there is a derth of English managers capable of the job. Managers who have plyed their trade at the highest level. BR would be the only one in that category, with the exception of Venables but BR is an ageing man who has been 'confused' at least of late. He is reputed to have fallen out with Shearer, has failed to get the best out of Dyer and cannot control the likes of Bellamy, Dyer and Woodgate with regards to their social lives. He has failed to match the long term ambitions of his club, despite the giant strides he has made with them.

Sven was the best candidate at the time and remains one of the best availible man now. I agree that the team picks itself but I would say we need to a man to stay in charge for the next 4-6 years in order to ensure that the young and talented nucleus of the squad can go on to fufill their potential. Can we afford yet more transition? What has happended to grooming a successor, why do we leave ourself bereft of decent candidates each and every time?

Agree partly with your comments AMC. However 'personally' enough is enough and I firmly believe that Sven should be dismissed for gross misconduct. Our National side has once again in my opinion struggled under his leadership. Games there for winning thrown away by negative substitutions of players etc. Again 'my belief' is that the likes of McLaren, Bruce or Curbishley have proved that they can manage. Before people shout out what have they won, lets be honest they have all taken their clubs forward and achieved relevant success and are all highly thought of by their respective chairman. Agree about consistency and transition and all that, but feel we should move on with one of the above. We had a Scotsman at helm of FA who then has gone on to knacker the Post Office on a ridiculous salary, replaced him with a nobody and have a swede for leading the National side. The team does pick itself in most positions agreed but when a game is there to be won the man is so negative. eg Brazil and Portugal to name but two. 80K a week, its an absolute nonsense and we get screwed by Barclays for less than a weeks wages. Something not quite right once again in my opinion.

I'm absolutely fine mate. How many of the world's top managers are in charge of their national team? Not many. By and large they earn more money and receive greater job satisfaction at club level. I'm sure SBR would be capable of picking a squad every few months, keeping them trouble-free for a week at a time and getting us to the World Cup.

If not SBR then the only person in world football worth getting is Scolari - World Cup winner and Euro 2004 finalist in his last two tournaments and he a) displayed the bottle to go on the attack in a pressure situation and b) had no qualms about subbing Figo, whereas Beckham wandered about like a lost child.

'arry for England
'arry for England
(Redknapp of course)

He'll be an effective, cool and amusing English coach who we can be proud to call one of us. Knows his stuff which is more than SGE can say.

Add Sam Allardyce to that list. We get too much of the media-fed line that there are 'no obvious candidates for the job', when there are several good managers in the PL. Trouble is they don't fit with a fashionable image. Or don't have friends in Fleet Street like the spiv Venables. If any of those can't do a better job than the suave Swede, I'll eat my own ringpiece.

And how much experience have they got of European level football, let alone international?

Exactly the point.

I personally don't rate Sven that highly as I believe his tactics are too rigid and won't work at the highest level of international football (i.e.against the top teams), but I'd much rather he was in charge than any of the English possibilities.

It says a lot about the depth of the pool of English talent that the top Premiership teams are managed by foreigners. And until the bigger Premiership sides look at getting the best young English managers instead of bringing in foreign coaches, they won't have the experience needed, so it's difficult to see where an obvious replacement for Sven can be found.

The English managers in question also don't have experience of success - they might be good at keeping a small team in the Premiership time after time, but can they win anything?

Post Master I think similarly to the Sky TV poll on the subject, people are pretty split 50/50 as to whether he should stay or go which is reflected pretty much in this forum.
The 'English' Managers mentioned and I also agree adding Harry Redknapp who has a passion for game and years of experience, would make a good go of the job.
I also think that Bruce,Curbishley and epecially McClaren will soon be plying their trade in European football. Birmingham/Middlesborough little clubs? Birmingham would fill a 50,000 seater stadium if they had one. Boro are in my opinion building up a very good side and have sold I understand around 28,000 season tickets.
Still who knows. whatever happens to sve, the decision will be made by a group of men who have 'probably' never kicked a ball in their lives but simply take millions out the game.
