Apologies if this has been dealt with before, but I use the excellent confguide.com Forum, which has links to 17 Conference Club Forums, but not City. This is because they won't link to sites that insist on registration before posting. What is the point of insisting on registration? Presumably people could fake information if they wanted to anyway?

Now that City is in the Conference, it seems a shame not to join in the on-line communities there - or are the other 17 Forums wrong?

I'm not a webmaster but I think registration allows the site owner to more easily weed out some of the regular posters of nonsense and abuse, thus making the moderators' task a bit easier.

Having seen some of the crap posted on other non-registration sites, I'm happy with the way things are.

There is a link to this site from confguide, so it's easy enough for genuine fans of other clubs to find the site and register if they so wish. Some seem to have done this already.

Agreed.

And what I would add is - since when do all football clubs independent websites have to conform to a standard rule?

Have you ever thought that, if an away fan was bothered enough, he would register?

It also stops the kind of rubbish postings you see on a regular basis on......er.......confguide, which is not a very good site or forum.

Thanks for the comments, but I disagree about Confguide (run by fans for fans on a voluntary basis, just like, er, York City?). The site is excellent for breaking news and the Forum's good fun.

And obviously there is no rule that independent websites have to conform to a standard rule, but 17 Conference clubs have non-registration sites and 5 don't.

You can read any part of this website (except for the City Chat part of the forum) without registering. Plus we don't ask for much information at all, but it is enough to stop the vast majority of spammers from bothering to spam this site.
