Super Calley have gone balistic....
Impressive number of signitures so far in support of their anger at the SPL, add your name here:

I'll certainly sign the petition because I think Scottish football is in dire need of a major shake up.
But it's not as clear-cut as it might seem. Inverness CT was founded at the behest of the football authorities who wanted to extend league football into the Highlands. Two of Inverness's three clubs merged, sold one ground and stayed in the other.
It was clear from the outset that the new club would command sufficient support to climb rapidly through the leagues. Given that, wouldn't it have been prudent to get the ground up to the required standard first, using cash generated from the sale of the surplus ground?
The club's solution to the problem was to groundshare with Aberdeen - not sure how far it is, but it's a hell of a long way to go for home games.
Meanwhile Clyde, who finished second, were planning to groundshare at Kilmarnock (40+ miles the other side of Glasgow) only a few years after getting significant help from Cumbernauld council to move into a new stadium there.
St Johnstone, who've spent such money as they have on keeping their ground up to scratch rather than on silly salaries for mediocre players are the only club in Division 1 with a ground good enough for the SPL, but underperformed this season and finished third.
I don't particularly blame Inverness or Clyde for their actions - it's the ludicrous SPL-dominated set-up that's driving clubs to treat their fans in such a cavalier fashion.
But then, what else can you expect from the people that brought you the Airdrie United scandal?
It's perhaps a lesson that we need to learn this side of the border before the Premiershit gets any stronger.

Have signed, but agree with everything Frank says.
Did anyone else see the story this morning in which the Partick Thistle chairman said they'd accept relegation and swop with ICT if the SPL chiefs gave Partick a million pounds as 'compensation'.....bloody cheek!

The whole situation's a fecking disgrace - glad I support a team in the lower leagues in Scotland and don't have to be part of this .....

What I meant about Airdrie was this:
Airdrieonians went into liquidation. Obviously a terrible thing for the Airdrie fans.
The bloke who owned the club set up a new club called Airdrie Utd, and applied for election to the Scottish League Div III because there was a space left by Airdrionians' departure, and all the other teams moving up one.
The league elected Gretna in preference to Airdrie Utd.
Said owner closed down Airdrie United.
Then he bought Clydebank FC of League Div II (I think - certainly a league club).
Then he moved Clydebank FC to Airdrie.
The he changed Clydebank FC's name to Airdrie United.
Makes the Wimbledon to Milton Keynes saga look like a shining example of fair trade and honest dealing.
There are only thriteen clubs in Scotland with grounds which meet SPL criteria. Twelve of them are currently in the SPL. That makes it a closed shop until St Johnstone get their sh!t together and win the Div I title, after which it will again be a closed shop until whomever Saints replace get their shi!t together and bounce back.
Meanshile there is no pyramid in place - the team who finishes bottom (East Stirling, who got 8 points, 3 of them on the last day of the season) didn't even have to apply for re-election.

Always time for ICT, always wondered about the chants at ICT.
Imagine
one Inverness Caladonian Thistle there's only one ....
followed by give us an III....NNN etc
it would be half time before you got through both those chants!
Good luck to them they deserve the place they rightfully won, whatever the gentleman's club in the SPL say.

I knew that they'd dissappeared, I went on there website and everything but couldn't find anything about it. So I turned my attentions to ICT instead.
Anyway, Clydebank, they Groundshared with Morton in an 8,100 capacity ground called Cappielow Park, they were in Scottish Division 2 until the 2002/2003 season, then they disappeared, now I know what happened. |

Official Clydebank FC site
United Clydebank Supporters
This season, they won the Central District League Division 2 and have been promoted to Central District League Division 1.
There's no proper pyramid in Scotland, but at least the Bankies are on the up again, and hope to make it all the way back to the league one day.
Their manager is Billy McGhie, whom I think is the same Billy McGhie that played for City in the early 80s, but I'm not 100% certain, because he's listed as player/manager which might be a bit too much for even the most determined 46-year old.

Its great that City fans are supporting this petition. I've seen Calley play a few times over the years as I have family in Inverness. Most noteably a 1-5 defeat at home by local rivals Ross County two seasons ago springs to mind.
They are such a well supported club for one so small. I have been to their supporters bar and from meeting the fans they are truly loyal and proud. Its a shame that a club that has achieved so much (I think they were in the highland league about 10 years ago when they merged) in such a short period of time is being punished by the powers that be. Although playing at Pittodrie would inconvinience the supporters, atleast they would be able to enjoy SPL football for the first time ever. Lets see some more City fans signing!! |

No mate - you're wrong! Airdrie, Raith Rovers and St Mirren also have SPL compliant stadia.
I'm impressed with your knowledge of the situation up here though. The think which really stinks about Airdrie is they didn't have to settle any of Airdrieonians' creditors, only Clydebank's which were significantly smaller in number. The Bankies had no players (all were out of contract) or stadium. A year before the Airdrie fiasco Greenock Morton were at deaths door thanks to a Craigesque chairman. The consortium planning to take over the club asked the league if the club went into liquidation could they reapply for entry. They were told NO yet 12 months on and Airdrie were able to.
Up here it's a joke. A lot of people feel for Partick over this. They're a well run club who signed players well within their budget to ensure they stayed in the black while other teams such as Dundee, Livingston and Motherwell have accrued massive debts.he SPL, but underperformed this season and finished third.

Apologies if I've inadvertently miseld people on this I heard on some TV programme that only St Johnstone were compliant; maybe they were referring to the teams that were still in with a chance of winning the league at that point.

Apology accepted Now please accept mine for the immature mocking of your nation's result last night by some of my countrymen. I don't understand what we have to be so pleased about when we're not even there!
Didn't think you played that well though. Only managed a couple of efforts on target. Good luck on Thursday!

Just to clarify, signed the petition days ago but didn't make any comment, and upon re-reading the thread thought that I should make my support for ICL clear.
They found a place in my heart when they stuffed Celtic a few years ago!

It's quite alright. I'd have been immaturely mocking with the best of them, if I hadn't put money on England to win the tournament.

Congratulations to Inverness.
It's now the club's responsibility to get the ground up to scratch to save their fans having to make a 200-mile round trip for each home game.

Was talking about this with Charles Kennedy the other day! He is an ICT fan as he represents Inverness... but he is a bit of a Chelsea fan on the quiet as well
