Very true. Even if some are 'rah-rah' does it matter?

I couldn't care less if he was upper class, middle class or working class or whatever labels you wish to you use. The bottom line is I find him to be an overbearing, egotistical, dummy throwing fool. If he is the emodiment of what an athlete should be - scrawny, goofy and thoroughly devoid of personality then it is no wonder that tennis has been on the decline in this country.....

He totally bottled it today:

6-3 played well

Then 4-2 up and lost 4-6

then played sh1t next and lost 0-6

was sh1t and went 0-3 down next.

Brought it back to 5-3 up and bottled it again and lost 7-5

Ah, but wait until Wimbledon. Then Darling Timothy will be splashed across the back pages once again and hailed as our nations Saviour who will once again attempt to battle to victory. Only the Independent will sagely point out that he's never won the damn thing (although still spend a few pages analysing what he has for breakfast etc).

As I suspected, Henman is a loser.

Wink

Did you hear my hearty cheer when he lost?

It was loud enough!

Or maybe he just lost to the best clay court player in the world. Coria has won 48 out of his last 50 clay court matches. That first set yesterday is the only set that Coria has lost all the way through the tournament. I don't think anybody has broke Coria's serve more times than Henman in this tournament. I'd say he did alright.

Stella Artois and Wimbledon now Tim.

He lost in four sets to the world number 3 who has lost only one of his last 50 games on clay. Bottler! Rolling Eyes

As a one-off result you could say that he simply lost to the better player. However, his career history puts the result into the correct context. Bottler.

Yes - HE LOST! VERY EASILY - I mean 6 - love in the Semi's of a grand slam event - that shows how far down the list he is.

But I still - as an Englishman - hope he wins Wimbledon (but will not be risking any money on him!)

That means nothing. Germany lost 5-1 to England in their own back yard but they still did pretty well in the World Cup.

Just because you have ONE dodgy set against one of the best players in the world at the moment does not mean you are crap.

Don't put words in my mouth - show me where I said he was crap? I said it shows how far he is down the list - and as has been said by the previous poster 13 games in a row is a little bit more than one dodgy set.

And by your comparison re Germany, City beat Huddersfied at their gaff, but they went up and we went down -it is never wise to quote specifics because people will always disprove them (especially prats like me Very Happy )

Smile

I suppose it depends how you look at it.

I prefer to look at it positively by noting that the score was 3-6 6-4 6-0 7-5. By looking at that he DID have one dodgy/shocking set and the other two he lost were quite close. Wink

Re City Huddersfield, this may be some kind of Whooosh but surely this is the same as England Germany. One of the teams got beat and ended up proving that they aren't that bad after all. Confused Question

Henman's problem is the English obsession with glorious defeat, to quote Homer Simpson - it's loser talk. People see this performance as a success, sure he did well but is that all he's worth a few semi-finals, a would be champion? any sportsman worth his salt who plays at the top level has to strive to improve and never to be happy with second best. There is room for improvement everywhere. Henman's fans point to his Wimbledon record and the last French Open, do this cut any ice with the likes of Sampras, Agassi et al?

You may have noticed that I don't like the guy but he and his apologists seem to be happy with mediocrity, in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king........

I agree semi-finals, although good, should not be something that he and his fans should be content with. He should be more aggressive and really go for it rather than be happy with what he's achieved so far. This though, at the moment, only counts for Wimbledon because he has done well there and just can't get any further.

In the other Grand Slams he has struggled. But this year at the French, it was a huge improvement on his least favourite surface, and being knocked out by one of the greatest players on clay at the moment is nothing to be ashamed of.
