What did you reckon? Does it have any relevance as far as Euro 2004 goes? Personally, I hope Michael Owen can step it up a bit. I know it was only Iceland but Darius Vassell farted on Owen. (Yes, I'm expecting a few rugby tackles on that one.)

It served as a confidence booster for the likes of Rooney if nothing else.
Hopefully Vassell will get the substitute striker nod ahead of Heskey, a player who shouldn't be anywhere near the England setup.
We've got the team of players who on their day are capable of winning Euro 2004, we'll just have to wait and see if they rise to the occasion or not...

Watched France v Ukraine last night.

France were really average and beat a young Ukrainian side 1-0 with a goal 2 minutes from time by Zidane (who else?).

I'll tell you what, that Lizarazu is sh*te little dirty b*****d and I reckon we can tear him to shreads. Talk about past it! And if they have Saha up front no wonder they won't score, and Henry was nowhere as per usual for the French national team.

NO fears lads! A victory for the 3 lions!

Emile Heskey: 42 Caps, 5 Goals

Wayne Rooney: 13 Caps, 5 Goals

It doesn't matter how they go in, as long as they do.

I've always rated FLJ and think he may well be one of the surprises of the tournament. I think he could well end up being the goalscoring midfielder that we need - Scholes is way off form

im not saying heskey should start instead of ronney, no way the lad deserves his place. but games and opponents vary, so i think you need somebody of heskey's stature on the bench/in the squad if needs must.

i also think defoe should have been given a call up but im not the england manager am i?

I think that providing England can keep Zidane quiet we could get a good result from the France game. That's why I think perhaps Butt should play in a man marking role to keep Zidane out of the game if possible, with Scholes being dropped to the bench as Lampard seems to be on better form.

The age of the France defence could cause them problems - neither Thuram, Desailly or Liazarazu are that young anymore. Owen and Rooney's pace could cause them a lot of problems. There's no reason why we can't get a good result out of the France game.

He is playing very well though without scoring, the Scholes - Lampard - Gerrard - Beckham midfield in a traditional 4-4-2 is the way to go.

I thought it was 14 caps and six goals? Confused

I expect a few teams have thought that ! Rolling Eyes

You'll also need to keep Henry, Trezuguet, Pires and Viera quiet of course .....

Well at least we're at an international tournament in the first place! Wink

You'd struggle to beat the Faroe Islands (and have failed to do so in the last few years). Wink

On the subject of England, my point is as a team we could be as strong as France. We may not have the attacking flair, but I feel that France's defence could be a little suspect particularly when dealing with pacier players. Thuram hasn't had that good a season this year, Desailly is getting older, and Lizarazu doesn't seem to be the player he was now.

Do you mean teams like Senegal and Denmark, those powerhouses of world football who both beat France in the last World Cup?

Wink
