No tap-ins please...
Just thought I'd comment on how well Tim Henman has done to get to the semi-finals of the French Open. A great straight-sets victory over Chela today, and on what is supposedly his least favourite surface.
Cue the obligatory "henman is a bottler" and "omg tennis is for gayz" posts.
I know he hasn't got much charisma, but he's all we've got and I'm surprised there hasn't been more acknowledgement of his achievements in Paris. The French Open is as important as Wimbledon, believe it or not.

Henman is an under-achieving jumped-up little sh*t with a god complex, and he and his painty-faced rah rah fans sum up everything that is wrong with this country.
Of course, that's only my opinion.....

Hey, our Tim's done good. Looked a bit dodgy against Llodra at first and very dodgy when match point down in the last set. But he's done alright.
Guillermo Coria up next though. Third seed, good on clay and an Argie. It'll be a hard match.

Aye but he is ENGLISH and if he wins the French open and parades the trophy with the flag you and I are proud of then what will we say!
As I have said before I want England to win ANY sporting encounter including Tennis!

Wouldn't worry about Henman winning anything - it doesn't happen!
He's done very well to get this far though, but his next opponent is apparantly the tournament favourite.
However as he's an Argie I'll be supporting Henman! |

Tennis is crap. It is crap because it is another hoorah Henry sport, like Rugger Union and Horse trial events. It is liked by women mostly because the players dont spit on the floor, and dress in nice white outfits, so seem like nice clean young men. Some Tennis players have long hair, either tied up or shaggy. These players attract the female student type of fan, and they scream out their favourite players name between games and sets, and make everyone who hears - cringe. If Henman wins Wimbledon this year, dont bother to let me know......I couldnt give a toss. The best the about Tennis is the rain, lots and lots of it please.........

Sorry, but having to put up with the unbearable Henman sh*t every year is too much, and I genuinely can't stand the t**t. His put on 'fist celebration' is infuriating beyond belief!

How many England flags do you ever see at Henman matches?? Exactly, its all that horrible symbol of, well, many bad things, the Union Jack. Henman is British, not English.

Yes but Rusedski (or whatever) is also British!
And to be fair in the Olympic games we support English Scottish Welsh etc as British. I see no problem being patriotic.
And by your argument City Till I die there are many little shits who play for England at Football, but but that doesnt stop me wanting them to win.
Sod Henman being arrogant and tennis being boing, he is English and British and I will support him for that reason (but wont watch him!)

Henman is a tosser.
What really NEEDS to happen is for someone to punch him, his awful girlfriend, and his smug parents right on their big Oxfordshire bonces and then for someone to turn a gun on the wankers on Henman Hill (yuk).
Ah, I've just decided what sport I'll be covering this summer!

Exactly - I'm working-class and I'm a supporter of Henman.
Labelling all his fans as being "rah-rah" is the same kind of ignorance which causes many people to label all England football fans as hooligans.
Also, like AD said, just because you don't like the guy it doesn't mean you couldn't be supportive of the best tennis player to come out of this country for years. I think Beckham's a complete prick, but does that mean I won't be cheering him on when he takes a penalty in this year's Euro 2004 final? I think not.

Just goes to show what a load of old bollocks patriotism is.
Support whatever team or individual sportsman/woman you admire. The fact that they were born in a particular country doesn't strike me as a particularly good reason for admiring someone.
