When we came back from 1-3 down to Carlisle at BC with 10 mins to go to win 4-3 the PA played "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba. {"I get knocked down, but I get up again ..."}
The joint was rocking !

1993 Wembley: two songs that seemed to be on the radio all the way there and back were Two Princes by the Spin Doctors and 2 Unlimited's No Limits - which on the coach ride home became
"York York, York York York York, York York York York, York York WE'RE YORK CITY"

Verdi's 'Triumphal march from Aida' which was the song we always used to run out to for a number of seasons. If you don't know which one I mean then click here (and press the play button towards the top left) Every time I hear that it reminds me of being stood in the Longhurst watching the players running out on the pitch and the excitement of watching City play. Shivers down my spine every time for me.

For me that was never as good as when they used to run out to the fast bit from the William Tell Overture. Now that raised the passions!
Possibly had something to do with the fact that we were actually good at the time as well!

'We are the Champions' by Queen...
Champions in 83/4...last game of the season, thousands stood on the pitch (me and Dad included!) looking up to the directors box where the players were (well I was actually concentrating on John Byrne but I'm sure they were all there)! |

Sadly enough Kylie Mynogues 'On A Night Like This' reminds me of the 1-0 victory over Rochdale at Bury ( Scott Emmerson rounds the keeper after coming on as a sub just minutes earlier ) just after we'd gone bottom of the league in the previous game . Booming out of the PA system it was !
Also , Tina Turner's ( massively original here ) Simply The Best was playing over the tannoy at BC after the 92/93 play-off semi final victory over Bury !
Any time a team play's 'Get Ready For This' ( 2 unlimited ? ) when the team's come out I seem to think " We're gonna turn these lot over today " *
*Only to be 3-0 down within 5 minutes !

Thought that would be 'Station Rise' (So early in the morning) by Rolf Harris?

Jeff Beck’s first solo single, "Hi Ho Silver Lining."
The chorus was phenomenal when sung by our away support 68/69

Nina Simone's My Baby Just Cares For Me because a dozen of us "sang" the double bass solo pretty well non-stop during an away match at Aldershot sometime in the late eighties. We won 1-0 and it was our first away victory in 18 months.
The rest of the day was spent singing "Goodbye Horse" led by a splendidly on-form but out-of-tune XLB.

I've never really understood why City fans sing "Goodbye Horse" {So THAT'S what it's called !} - can anyone enlighten me ?

Funnily enough a song called 4 in the Morning by Faron Young reminds me of a trip to see City play Charlton at the Valley in about 1972. After the game a few of us (about 17 or 18 year olds) went to Soho to a strip club! Really daring for us in those days.
After being ripped off by the price (probably about 2 quid to fet in (or about a one fifth of a weeks wages! -but probably the first time I had seen a real woman's body unclothed!) we drank ourselves silly and arrived back in York on the milk train at "4 in the morning" and sang the song.
Sad really!
And another one that reminds me of about the same era was "All I ever need is you" by Sonny and Cher. Arrived late for the Pullman bus from the ABC (that will confuse!) to go to Villa, last seat on the bus was with a load of lads on the back of the bus I didnt know - boozed all the way to Villa Park. Puked up on the bus most of the way. Top up with more booze before the game, puked up again on way back and sang this song in between retches!
Even remember we drew 1 - 1.
A great day (and I wonder who the lads were!) - Cue half the over 50s on the forum to say "It was me"

It's actually a Dirtyleeds import, dating back to a match (v Sheff U?) when the pitch was invaded by a pantomime horse, and as it was led off the pitch by plod, the Gelderd End began singing "Goodbye horse, goodbye horse..."
A workmate wrote a piece on it for a Dirtyleeds magazine last season, so I'll try and get some more details off him when he gets in this morning.
(If anyone's THAT interested)
Edit: He's on holiday, so you'll all have to sit on the edge of your seats until next week.

As I was going round Asda at the Metro Centre last night, they had Macy Gray on the in-store radio ("Goodbye and I choke"), which reminded me of City-Southend on a Friday night a few years back, as the Shippo serenaded the Southend keeper with it
