Former Leeds man is Derrick Lilley, another failure.

Just proof of how bad a state Scottish football is in ! Rolling Eyes

Lilley had a good season in the SPL and was interesting Aberdeen among others but obviously a crappy English Division 3 side had more pull .......

Also possibility that Lee Mair of Dundee might be going to Oxford and he's been getting rave reviews the past couple of seasons.

Today's edition of The Scotsman is claiming that Boston United "broke the bank" to get Derek Lilley.

Boston broke bank for Del, says Preston

However, the fact that we were prepared to offer him a three-year contract was evidently also a major factor for the player when coming to a decision.

Boston swoop to land Lilley

They'll get their money's worth - he'll be the best player in Division 3 by a mile !

He only left because Dundee went into liquidation and was released as a cost-cutting exercise

Cowan wasn't originally released. He was actually going to be kept but after he heard of our interest in him, went to the administrators and offered to leave the club so one of his team-mates could keep their jobs.

What a thoroughly bloody nice bloke Very Happy

And Boston's recruitment drive doesn't end there, it seems ....

The Lincolnshire Echo is reporting this morning that the Heart of Midlothian striker Andy Kirk is set to join the Pilgrims in a 3-year deal within the next 24 hours.

Kirk, who celebrates his 25th birthday this Saturday, is a full Northern Ireland international.

Where the hell are they getting the money ?

Neither of these guys will be badly paid up here and both are getting 3 year deals.

Has someone at Boston won the Lottery or what ? Confused

Boston's manager when they got promotion from the Conference was eventually kicked out /banned from managing for a time for irregular/illegal payments. He is now back at the club again.........as boss.........?????

Steve Evans, brought back by their new chairman, some property developer from the East Midlands who is probably putting up the dough.

The "property developer from the East Midlands" finally rode off into the sunset in February of this year, after having watched his purchase option on the York Street ground evaporate into thin air at midnight on 31st December 2003.

The chairman at Boston at the present time runs an Executive Recruitment, Training and Development agency in Cannock, Staffordshire.

Seriously, though, the signing of Kirk -- presumably on a Bosman -- on a long (3-year) contract seems to me as if it might be pretty shrewd business, assuming he manages to steer clear of injuries (and I see that he is rather injury-prone). Remember that Kirk is only just coming up to 25, and his best years in football may still be ahead of him. If so, he might perhaps interest some "bigger" club well before the three years are up, in which case Boston could possibly recoup quite a considerable percentage of whatever it is that they spalsh out on his wages and bonuses ....

Wasn't Kirk being raved about a few years back? Or was that just in Belfast?

Pretty highly rated at Hearts but DOES always seem to be injured so never quite lived up to the hype.

Alex Mathie springs to mind.

Interesting article from today's Sunday Herald. Click on the link below:

Who are these English clubs outbidding Premierleague sides by paying players loadsamoney wages? Manchester United? Arsenal? Chelsea? Boston United anyone?
